案件发生在日本伊势市三重县，年轻的杂志社女记者辻出纪子深夜下班后离奇失踪。当地警方追查到有变态收藏癖的嫌疑人柴田浩彦，却因证据不足难以为其定罪。僵局之下，柴田浩彦因另一起非法监禁强奸案被逮捕，几经波折却迎来反转，不但无罪释放，还令警方和检察院陷入审问陷阱丑闻。
曾扬言要向纪子父母道出真相的柴田浩彦，被释放后选择缄口不言。他与辻出纪子的失踪到底有何关联？其中究竟隐藏着怎样的内情？这起发生在1998年的悬案，至今仍未侦破。我们同样不得而知的是，只想找回女儿尸骨的纪子父母，是否还能在有生之年等到答案？
