Vocabby's 10th Birthday Bash: Free Fun for Kids

Our play community education is hosting a free 10th birthday bash for Vokavi, the fun taxicab mascot of the Vokavi's world program. It kicks off at 10.30 a.m. at the University of Alabama at Birmingham's A-Lis Stevens performing Arts Center on 10th Avenue South. Expect cake, games, performances and lots of excitement for kids from birth to 5 years old and their grownups. Vokavi's world is a no-cost vocabulary building program sponsored by the PNC Foundation. Every month it takes little ones on global adventures, blending art and science to teach words about things like weather, animals and activities. Families get hands-on fun, free books and materials to keep the learning going at home. The program has made a big difference, reaching nearly 17,000 kids and parents since it started 10 years ago.

1:02One mom shared how it brought her whole family together, sparking her three-year-olds love for dance and building strong learning skills that lasted. In recent years, it's grown a lot through team-ups with local spots like Harris Early Learning Center, Head Start programs and Pre-K Schools. This school year, a new partnership with UAB's Live Health Smart Alabama has brought it to Titusville, serving over 1,300. 44 more children around Birmingham. Vokavi's world meets the third Saturday each month at Woodlawn United Methodist Church. Upcoming themes include watching clouds on March 21st and what's in the garden on April 18th.
