THE WORLD has gone mad in the last 30 days. A month ago, the media and health experts condemned peaceful protests against travel restrictions imposed in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Since then, the narrative has completely flipped, and some health experts are literally claiming that mass protests in the wake of the death of George Floyd are fine. Not just fine, actually; more than 1,000 health professionals have signed an open letter claiming that the protests must continue because “protests against systemic racism, which fosters the disproportionate burden of COVID-19 on Black communities and also perpetuates police violence, must be supported.”
In other words, “white privilege” is more dangerous than COVID-19.
Mark Sutherland joins us via Skype from the U.K. to help us try to put this in perspective.
Then a look at what should be a major scandal in the health care industry: The two most prestigious academic journals in the medical field, the Lancet and the New England Journal of Medicine, were forced to retract a bogus study that claimed the use of hydroxychloroquine to treat SARS-CoV-2 was dangerous—a paper that led the World Health Organization and several national governments to change their policies and terminate studies with hydroxychloroquine in COVID-19 patients.
The obvious questions: How did this fake study get published in highly respected peer-reviewed journals, and how many other peer-reviewed papers are likewise phony? (And, given that President Trump announced the withdrawal of the US from the WHO before this news broke, will he be getting an apology from the critics who raked him over the coals for questioning the WHO’s competence?)
