Veteran Rowers Tackle Epic Isle of Man Challenge

0:00On April 24th, a team of eight veteran rowers from the Waittown Bay Coastal Rowing Club is tackling a massive challenge, rowing their hand-built boat. Ninian 26 miles each way from Burrow Head at the Isle of Whithorn to Ramsey on the Isle of Man and back, all in one day. They face setbacks with two post-poments, one in March and another earlier this month, due to rough Scottish weather that kept flipping on them. Club Chairman John McGuire, with over 30 years at sea, praises the crew's grit. They've trained through wind, hail, and rain that scared off other. Groups, building up distance and time on the water without backing down. All these rowers are in their 40s or older, split into two teams of four to handle the outbound and return legs, with rest spots on two support. Forecast looks solid now for their Saturday launch, and if they pull it off, it'll stand as one of the club's longest open water rows, boosting funds, and firing up new folks to Gravenor.
