Venezuela earthquake - Death toll rises to almost 4,000

The two powerful earthquakes struck on June 24, causing catastrophic destruction, particularly in the coastal state of La Guaira. Hundreds of buildings were damaged or collapsed, creating one of the deadliest natural disasters in Venezuela's modern history. The humanitarian situation remains severe. The United Nations has appealed for hundreds of millions of dollars in emergency aid, while displaced residents face shortages of shelter, clean water, medical care, and sanitation. Relief organizations have also reported increases in diarrheal diseases, skin infections, and disruptions to treatment for chronic illnesses in overcrowded shelters.
