Welcome to the Tonal Soccer Show Weekender. The show where we preview the biggest games of this coming weekend. We look at the matches you're looking forward to and of course we have our customary Friday quiz. My name is Ryan Bailey. Join me today. It's the quiz master Taylor Rock. Hello Taylor. Hello Ryan Bailey. I'm excited to be here. Excited to do some quizzing. I've been watching a lot of Taskmaster and though that hasn't really influenced the quizzes yet it might in the near future and I'm pretty excited about the diabolical things I can get up to. Have you how much toss master have you been into? Just have interest. I rewatch season 19 because it's really really really fun and it's got Manzuga on it and then I watched five and that did not grit me but season seven with James A. Caster has definitely pulled me in. He is tremendous
as most of that cast. So I've only seen two seasons. I've watching that one at the moment. It's got Rod Gilbert I think as well is one of the comedians on that season. That is a very good season indeed. I'd recommend it. Canal Nanjani is on the new one as well. It's fun. Jason Manzuga is paved the way for Americans to go on over and be on that show. I assume he Kumail was bringing us a similar level of chaotic energy. I've enjoyed season seven for the cast being a bit more at each other's throats. The 19 one is a bit more polite. They're all kind of enjoying each other's company. The season seven one they feel a little bit more competitively ruthless. The four of us would be on Taskmaster and we will be later on the quiz including Graham Rutherland. Hello Graham. Hello Ryan Bailey. Basically any season of Taskmaster that has Bob Mortimer on it. Bob Mortimer, excuse me, that is that's my favourite. He's just he's just the best. I do wonder if Bob Mortimer's telecomedy translates over the jump over there. You want to weigh in? Over the Bob Morton. He makes salt right I think. That's the one. Wow.
If you'd like to see Bob Mortimer's Uber, there's lots to look at Joe but there is a new series of last one laughing on Amazon which off which he is the reigning champ and is very good. Do you get a good sense of his his his his oove as I say? He's great. He's great. How are you? How are you? I'm great. I just forgot the Taskmaster existed and so I've been reminded and I'm enjoying that quite a lot. If only there was maybe a time when we were all going to be together soon that maybe Taylor could design something that would be that would be kind of interesting just to think about. Oh. What the information? If you guys are in something that I haven't been invited to. Nothing. Nothing. I did watch the clip of the one where they the challenges can't like determine how many beans are in a can of baked beans and one contestant like opens it up and counts every single one and then it just cuts cuts back and they're like yep well good job to him. Anyway onto the actual challenge and he was the only one they may do that and now I'm varying into ideas along those lines. Oh boy. Little Alex horn rock well over there devising things.
Like to see it. We also like to see our patreon patreon.com slash total soccer show for all our bonus content you get bonus episodes video content and access to our discord server where you can discuss Taskmaster and the soccer if you so choose patreon.com slash total soccer show and one last reminder here on this feed on Saturday the US M&T and taking on Belgium we're doing a YouTube live watch along. If you'd like to watch the US M&T versus Belgium on one of the 17 TV networks it's going to be on this Saturday you can also have the accoutrements of us on YouTube so uh do that please. 350dston will be on the YouTube link in the show notes for that one. A please and a thank you. Alright let's get to the games we are looking forward to this weekend. Joe is is is there a game I mentioned 10 seconds ago or so that you might be looking forward to? I don't think so but I am interested in USA Belgium where I was listening to anything that I said for now I'm just kidding um this game we've talked about in a great level of detail but I can't lie
and say that it's another game that I'm looking forward to watching the most I mean Phoenix Rising total size post as the one I'm really looking forward to the most but um we we've done enough US on maybe on the feed this week so I will take it to the US we've talked about this game in in a lot of detail I am increasingly concerned with just how many talented players Belgium has in the attack up against the US defense that I just don't believe in especially at the moment especially without Tyler Adams and it to double down on the specialties there are a couple more things that I was wondering about that we didn't talk about when we previewed this window earlier on in the week the first thing is who gets set pieces this to me feels like a huge question mark for the US who at the World Cup their group is just filled with a lot of like sort of mucky teams teams are going to make the game really ugly and the US can do some of that stuff as well and when those games happen I don't really trust the US to go and create a bunch of chances against lower compact blocks I think Australia will certainly do some of that pergway might do a little bit of that as well I I don't buy the US as a team that can do that reliably so then where do you create chances from well set pieces would be a great way to do that except when Christian policy takes in the US doesn't create
chances from set pieces so this could be an opportunity if potch team is going to make a change he's got two more real sort of windows or sets of games to do it before the World Cup if it's not politic maybe it's reino or maybe perhalter some elements of the starter I don't know what this is going to look like but if if we're going to see change it kind of has to happen now on the set piece front so that's something I'm watching for and then the other thing I'm watching for that we didn't talk about really on Wednesday show was who gets the minutes the Balagan isn't playing it's right here because he's not going to play 180 plus minutes in this window he will be the starting player bar injury for this team but is it peppy or is a shaman we know that potch team to loves pat a shaman we don't really know exactly how he feels about Ricardo peppy and peppy's not been fit and firing for psv really either he's just had this full of saga go on where now it seems like he's not going to full him anymore I mean there's just a lot that's been going on with Ricardo peppy so who gets those minutes I think the clarity on the striker depth chart after Balagan is basically non-existent so those are the things I'm really curious about that we that we hadn't talked about set pieces and who the the backup is to Balagan excellent stuff very good and once again
YouTube live watch along for that game 315 Eastern join us on the YouTube's Taylor any other game you're looking forward to this weekend yeah I have some interest in Mexico Portugal for a few different reasons including that the US will be playing Portugal after that Belgium game so seeing what they look like and who plays where and then trying to figure out if there will be rotation and also how the US handles them since they are quite good that Portugal team but then also I think there's a lot to be interested in with this Mexico team under Javier Aguirre you have a lot of very familiar names back in this team Memochoa 40-year-old Memochoa the 151 caps is in there Hazus Gallardo with his 116 caps Rao Jimenez 121 caps so you've got like the veteran players but then you've got youngsters coming through and you have like the what could have been element of this one because you've got very likely Richie Lidesma starting it right back for them you've got Obad Vargas potentially playing you've got Brian Gutierrez potentially playing in in this game so some dual nationals who went with L3 could be involved in this game it's like an old head
Mexico team that still has youth in there playing at the S Tekka so you can kind of give them a slight advantage automatically and I'm wondering how all those things combine because this isn't the strongest Mexico team it's not the weakest Mexico team we've seen in recent memory but I think there are still many question marks around them heading into the world cup for Portugal it's more how do you kind of fit all the talent into one team and how do you get them all playing cohesive and well they still have some injuries they still have some key players missing but overall I think this is going to be a really interesting game in a lot of different ways man reading through some of those Mexico players you were talking about Taylor that was a real what could have been moment for me I'll be honest Vargas and and Gutierrez especially I don't think I'm over that just yet hmm we you realize this is the most Simpson's game we've ever mentioned on this podcast Mexico versus Portugal and ties low scoring bass kickin I mean
do I like what are you off it is this low scoring it is yes Tekka it is a friendly it's not the best Mexico team but there's talent there I think Portugal put up numbers in this game yeah I think so I'll say you know it yeah twist my arm I don't you I'll give you a prediction I'll say this is 3-1 Portugal wow what's happened to Joe wow I know no one to use these guys being bold very good Graham any any Simpson's related games euro interested in this weekend not Simpson's related games but Saturday will be a busy day for all three teams that I care about because I'm going to start on I'll be in Edinburgh City at 3 p.m. local time Scotland are then playing Japan at 5.30 p.m. and then I have the US game against Belgium at 7.30 my time so that's quite the trouble header for me but for the the neutral viewer I think there will be quite a bit of interest in the friendly between England and Uruguay Ryan will you be watching who what why am I asking you this no you will not be watching but some England fans will be watching as a Friday at 3.45 p.m. Eastern from the England point of view Thomas Tuko has called up a giant 35 man squad for this game
they're playing Uruguay and Friday then it's Japan next week as well he clearly wants to have a final look at a few players and I think there are some questions to be settled before the world cup in terms of their lineup is it Louis Hall or Nico Riley at left back both are having excellent seasons at club level Louis Hall I think is a bit more of like an orthodox left back in terms of how he plays that position um but oh Riley as we've seen from Manchester City can be a real attacking threat as we saw in the the Caribbean Cup final um another question what is the first choice center right pairing that's a huge thing that Tommy took so as yet to settle on John stones your favorite Ryan maybe you will watch for for him and the game he is he is fit again always fitting your eyes of course Haramagwaya has been called up so to has Mark Gaihi Fakaya Tamori is in this squad so what does that part of the team look like going into the world cup I think everything is up for grabs with those two positions um another question is Ellie Anderson still the starting central midfielder alongside Declan Rice or could Kobe Manu or Adam Warton get a look in in this window James Garner has been called in has had a quietly excellent season for
Everton Tommy Tukes has talked like glowingly about him is he gonna get an opportunity in these two matches we know in terms of the forward line it'll be Kane as a striker and it'll probably be sack of despite the fact he's in pretty poor poor form by his standard right now on the right side but who's the starting left winger for England is it is it Rashford is it Antony Gordon could it be this other guy I've heard I've never heard of before called Harvey Barnes he can't be very good traitor and then for Uruguay this is their first window since that hammering against the US when Bielsa came under real pressure and there was a sense towards the end of the year that he was fighting for his job there were reports that was uh growing detachment between him and some of his players um so if this were to be another bad defeat and look up against this England team that's stacked for talent it could be a bad defeat for Uruguay as competitive as they usually are I don't think it's guaranteed until and I did are one of one episodes this week on the Uruguayan League and we talked a little bit about the national team in Bielsa it feels like it's teetering on the brink for Bielsa it could go one of two directions one
they have an excellent world cup and he proves himself as an excellent coach the other one is it kind of blows up at the world cup or even before the tournament so yeah there's definitely a bit of tension within the Uruguay camp which I know is shocking for Bielsa that's never happened to him before and I think on both sides there are things to keep an eye on with this with this friendly match very good um Graham I did see a post on social which may or may not be true but it sounds interesting about um England fans going into these two games against Uruguayan Japan at Wembley it was to the effect of um obviously there's not much but relatively little interest in England friendly's in England um and fans who are part of the England supporters club will go to Wembley like buzz their ticket in and then go home just so they have they can keep the points so they can go to like important games which sounds kind of wild to make your way all the way to Wembley to do that but that's a thing apparently but I mean that just speaks to to obviously that's quite funny um but to actually be sincere about that that just shows you how weighted the points how when it comes to major tournaments and how dependent it is that you have
those points on getting tickets for the games that actually matter so for example part of the reason I'm going to Liverpool um on Tuesday to watch Scotland vs Ivory Coast besides the fact that that's quite fun and I want to go to the Hickory Decorate Dock not been to that new stadium before um so I'm looking forward to it but the other point is I'm going to get two points on my on my supporters club and ticket so yeah those things do matter have have the English tried liking soccer I don't know that could be it might be worth experimenting with just casually I guess I think um in my lifetime Joe there's been a lot of apathy about the England national team in general because of glorious failure we're quite good now but still I think there's this perception that we have a lot of soccer and if it's not competitive we don't really want to watch it very much maybe just give your supporters ticket to somebody else then I don't know that could be worth a try to just I'm full of ideas today no we'll take it maybe you're right hot dogs are too expensive in Wembley good Joe yeah so that's a that's England Uruguay at 345 Eastern on Fox sports one one more game I'd
like to flag yes it's from NWSL this weekend uh Denver Summit are welcoming the Washington spirit for their home opener their first ever home opener woo you get that 2 p.m. Eastern are on Saturday on Paramount plus this one is at mile high stadium a mile above sea level can you imagine it in Denver over 50,000 people expected over 50,000 people for this NWSL game that's going to break the single game NWSL attendance record that was set last year by uh BFC Washington spirit um so obviously not all Denver Summit games are going to be at mile high they're going to play at the exporting goods and they've also got their new stadium coming soon uh centennial stadium as well so lots of good stuff on the on the horizon for Denver Joe I was at the I was at a soccer conference I've mentioned it a few times on the feed I was at conference in Atlanta this week and it seemed like a lot of conversation was around this game and it seemed like almost everybody at the conference was saying I'm gonna get my flight to Denver this weekend to see this game it was a big it's a big deal I'm so jealous I'm so jealous I mean Denver have been better than I thought they would be to
start the season where they have four points through the first three games so that they split evenly across results they just beat Gotham on the road earlier this week 2-0 and we're pretty roundly the better team they have been they've been pretty fun so far this season you Melissa Costler who came in from the the Bundesliga she's just been absolutely dominating games like in the in the midst of her prime was incredible in Germany but not playing for an elite team and now she's come to the NWSL and it looks like it's translated it's still quite early but she could be a legitimate star in this league that that people will know sooner than later I am extremely jealous that I'm not going to be at this game I think it is going to be the sort of soccer party in the US and that probably even includes the USA Belgium game over the weekend I am I'm stoked and I'm really really interested to see what this Denver team looks like come the end of the season yeah likewise also I love that crest is it's giving national parks yeah which feels so right doesn't it you know it feels like they there's some clever branding there very much so all right that's the games we're looking forward to we pause for a second when we come back we're going to dip into our discord and
listen about the listen about later about the games you guys are interested in as well and with what our scouting knower the TSS scouting networks and reports coming right after this break it's that time of year again for taxes we all know the stress of the old way of filing you send your documents off and then absolute radio silence you're stuck refreshing your inbox and sending awkward just checking in text wondering if they've even started but with TurboTax expert full service I know my TurboTax expert takes taxes fully off my plate and updates me every step of the way so I don't have to worry that way I can get back to the things that matter to me by going on vacation in the spring or enjoying the NFL off season so stop chasing updates it's time to switch to the modern tax filing solution with into a TurboTax the best part you can get experts progress right on your phone while you go about your day so go for a run or grab a coffee you'll know your dedicated expert is handling it looking for every last deduction to get you the best possible outcome and every dollar you deserve file with confidence visit TurboTax.com only available with

John Adams has posted their soccer Saturday Graham's got a soccer Saturday lined up but so does John Adams. Here's his North London Derby the women's one USA Belgium and then San Diego Wave taking on the Chicago Red Star. That's quite a lineup. I'm going to enjoy that very much. John Adams I imagine very good indeed. Sakenith of
Sidon Joe I think on a on a last week show you question my what's this frequency Kenneth. Oh yeah I just I don't remember doing that but that does sound like something I would do because I don't get it I don't understand the reference maybe anyone else get the reference anywhere that's it what do you want to do your thing? He's listening to it for once. To show you what's the reference right and tell us Toto it's an R&M song it was a good one oh look it up okay come on now it's about a crazy stalker of a weatherman or something it's got it's got an interesting story behind it anyway. Colour me intrigued. Go listen to the album monster it's very scary by R&M. Not really. All right so Kenneth and Sidon anyway is says says I'll be glued to the screen to see who the US is playing in their World Cup group but these playoffs it's almost feels like the World Cup is starting kids prepare to learn independence as your dad is watching World Cup soccer. You're only one and a half years old that's old enough to
make your own deal. Kenny's got it going on there obviously there's some games happening. What happened last night? Yeah yeah that is I mean we should probably acknowledge that we we record these episodes on the Thursday and so that is where a lot of the interest is and depending on who comes through those first UEFA semi-finals and we have the Intercontinental playoffs semi-finals as well that's then going to be the real interest on Tuesday night early next week where there's going to be single shootout matches to decide who fills those last spots for the World Cup so yeah there's a lot of good soccer to watch over the next few days. Yes and as we recorded this there's a lot of Irish friends who are nervous and they as they head into a big gaming proc. Very good. So I have it right just are they all are they all like one-off so like Turkey. Turkey you're done yeah yeah okay cool sweet yeah but the Intercontinental playoffs they have two CD teams right so DR Congo and Iraq are the two CD teams they're already through to the final so there's only like one semi-final there's not a second semi-final but yeah Ryan I saw
with Ireland being in Czechia I saw a picture of like three Guinness trucks on that apparently on the roads to Prague which like you know Prague is one of the beer cities of the world but I can also understand why the Irish wants to have their own their own temple for that big game. Yeah that doesn't feel right you should drink local if you're going to travel for a game but I think see normally I would agree with you Ryan but I don't know I think like a big Ireland game it's okay to have a Guinness I think on this occasion. Sure I will I will be doing so there we go. Gritty for the Union is looking for this weekend to Gotham FC versus Orlando always top billing in NWSL says Gritty that one 7 PM Eastern on victory plus whatever that is says Gritty yeah I don't know. I fall I think I followed the end to be so fairly closely and I'll admit that victory plus caught me off guard a little bit I am excited for this game Gotham have been a bit uninspiring so far this year although I guess a lot of the teams that I thought were going to be pretty good have kind of been uninspiring to date Orlando made it seem like Chicago who rebounded after their
dismal performance against Angel City maybe didn't rebound at all because they beat them 3-0 midweek and he had Barbara band up back on the score sheet it was a good performance from Orlando not not like the flashiest by any means that that's just not who they are I think this is going to be a really really fun game because I still don't think I have a good sense of which teams are actually good in the end of this all this season and I I kind of thought I did so I've been humbled here. There we go. Victory plus of course we all know is where you stream live and on demand sports like the Dallas Stars, the Anaheim Ducks, Texas Rangers, NWSL, WHO and much more you can access regional game coverage and all your devices via victory plus we hopefully will be paying us for that mention there we go. Texas Hussia is excited for Saturday's league fixture in the Liga 2 between Malaga and Lajanes. Malaga used to be a league staple before a bad ownership change show this once great club as low as the Spanish third division and Malaga is currently one point out the automatic qualification spots in the Segundo division. Great Malaga was
they'd won who were owned at Shakeound. That's right that was that team that had who did they have Red Van Nistaroi played for them. E-Scoe? E-Scoe was a Malaga. There was a few that famously they were about 30 seconds away from making I think a Champions League semi final the year that Dortmund made that final that you went to Ryan I believe it went between Birmingham and Dortmund and Malaga that was their season to make a real impact in Europe and then they kind of went bust and disappeared and tumbled down the divisions and to be honest the Segundo division it's not just Malaga that are the story a Departivo Lakeruña who have written about for the newsletter this season they're also up there in playoff contention or promotion contention I should say so we could have a couple of big clubs traditionally big clubs and Malaga are a big club I don't know so much about Lakeruña but Depart but Malaga I kind of know that part has been relatively well my family has like a house there that go to sometimes and Malaga are a big club like the Ross Ieda is one of the best atmospheres in Spanish football so they would very much be a good addition
to the top flight of Spain if they were to go up. At some point we need to do a full episode on Grimm's definition of a big club because whenever you say it I'm like yeah that makes sense and I think about it some more and it's like I don't understand your definition at all so we maybe today's not the day for it but I want to hear your flesh down. I think it's just lots of fans I think I saw as big stadium lots of fans have done stuff in the past. That's the hurt of them. Well then every club is a big club. Sure. I like Grimm casually dropping in family home in Malaga as well. You know about that as well. It's not my family it's the family I'm out identity so I get to go with it. Brian's eager to get some of the heat off him and on to Grimm it sounds like yeah it seems that way it seems that way. I've never seen Grimm and the Moors in the same place at the same time as all of them. Sixty think. Grimm have you seen the movie Sexy Beast? Oh half but not for a long time. Check that one out. It's got very Spanish. Is it Ray Winston being the mild-mannered one and Ben King's leaving the lunatic? No no no no no yes that one. Yeah. It's good movie. It's good movie but it's got yeah
Brits in Southern Spain. Kind of just getting just getting bacon skin that's what I've written in that movie. Brian Morton's in that one right I would assume. He is yeah yeah place a place a salt guy. Right yeah there you go. Salt seller. It's called stew. He says Portland Thorns versus Kansas City current. The Thorns are coming off a legendary victory over the rain after going down to nine plays last weekend. Their Wednesday match against the wave hasn't happened as I'm writing rock roll but the vibes are good coming into this clash against Chris Arles's side. The Thorns lost three one to them. Yeah I can't wait them all. That game against Seattle though truly was legendary and I love that it came up here. Two red cards for Portland. So they play with nine players and they still out XG their bitter rivals the Seattle right. I mean it's just so good like you can't write that stuff. Well you can but it seems silly but then it happens and it's just amazing. I cannot imagine watching your team grid out a win against the team that you hate the most with only nine players on the field and the feeling of superiority that would accompany that like we only needed nine to be you. Oh that's so good.
I am I'm fairly high on this Portland team. I do think they're going to be pretty good. I don't know exactly where that's going to leave them. Kansas City were widely regarded as the best team in the league coming into the year including by myself and it doesn't seem like they've really found the answers. I mean they're missing 10 lost you win go which matters a ton because she might be the best player in the entire league but there's still a lot of talent even without her and Chris Arles it feels like is very much learning this group and maybe learning a new league and all the other things that come with the transition that he's made. So there's there's a lot of work for this Kansas City team to do. I am I'm going to have my eyes on this game very closely. Excellent stuff. Thank you very much. Disco to do one more. Disco game from Kunal says other than USA Belgium. I'm going to be looking forward to the North London Derby in the WSL with it being the men's international break. There'll also be a mercy side Derby and Manchester Derby on Saturday morning. Good stuff. Manchester City will most likely win the WSL set leaves Arsenal Chelsea and United fighting over the remaining one and a half champions league places. Good stuff coming up
this weekend. Very good indeed. Hey guys did you know about the TSS scouting network? You can join it via our Patreon. If you do so you can assign yourself a player or we will assign you a player and you could submit scouting reports and have them read out here and on our bonus feeds. It's super fun and many are enjoying it. Let's read out some of those scouting reports right now. Graham off you go. So Eric V has been in touch with a scouting report on Chibi Ekibu, a 19-year-old defender with Sacramento Republic. So Eric V writes Chibi got his first meaningful minutes of 20-26 starting in Sacramento's 2-0 each time when against El Fara-Lito. Let's go. I've not heard of that team before. That's a great story. I love that. El Fara-Lito, that's a good name as well. Sacramento is a big club. I mean it depends who you ask. I mean a burrito shop club has to be a big club in my mind but they played Sacramento played
the burrito boys in the U.S. Open Cup. He played mostly as a right-sided centre back in a back three in possession and as a right back in a back four in defence though he switched to the left for the majority of extra time. He looked composed and comfortable defensively, effectively dealing with what was admittedly not the most threatening El Fara-Lito side. He was confident on the ball including a couple impressive dribbles and runs into the midfield. Perhaps more importantly, he stayed well clear of the late and post-game incidents. Interesting. Not quite sure what those were. Yeah, pros. There we go. My first impression is Chibi as a well-rounded game and positional has a well-rounded game excuse me and a positional versatility that should earn him plenty of minutes as Sacramento's season goes on. Thanks for that. Eric V. Yeah. Sacramento are doing a good job developing a lot of young players. They are a very, very good academy system and Okabeu is a fun U.S. youth national team kind of fringe prospect right now. He's definitely got to watch. Thanks a lot. Jai, what'd you go? I have a Skating Report coming from Andrew. What's up Andrew? Skating Jacob Ombek, 17-year-old forward for Brun B. Ombek has slowly
become a bigger part of this Brun B team. He's played in 17 of the club's 24 matches, starting 12 including the last four. He's played a number of different roles across the front line and it seems he's won the confidence of manager Steve Cooper-Hail. His numbers are not particularly impressive, scoring only three times with no assists, but his value comes in his off-the-ball work. He's constantly moving in possession, being among the most active off-ball runners in the Danish Superliga, while also being an aggressive presser out of possession. I imagine that activity is a big reason why Cooper has put so much faith in such a young player. Ombek has also shown a willingness to take people on on the dribble, which is probably why Cooper has deployed him on the wing at times, although his success rate isn't particularly good. That said, the aggressive mentality of just 17 is something that's encouraging as it shows bravery. You like to see in young players. When did Steve Cooper go to Brun B? A few months ago. Or maybe even for the start of the season, but he ended up in some kind of, it was with the Bosnia manager, so this week, some sort of public spat with them and he was accused of some stuff. You know about some public spat in Bosnia,
right, Graeme? Yes, I do. I untied out of, sorry, you were 10 years ago. But yeah, Steve Cooper has done what I wonder why more managers and more players who, I mean, he'll have got a nice tidy payout from Notion Forest as many people have in recent times. Why don't they just go with that money? They don't need any more money. Why don't they just go and coach like cool teams in other countries? So I say, well played, Steve Cooper. Yeah, well played, demos, nice place to live by all accounts. Good stuff. Taylor, do you have a report for us? I do. This one comes from David McCracken, scouting David Meia, a 20 year old right-winger for Deportiva La Coruña. Meia was taken out with what seemed at the time like a slight injury during the club's March 8th loss to Granada. After initial scans, he went to Madrid for additional testing with one of the top orthopedic surgeons in Spain and eventually had surgery for a damaged lateral collateral ligament in his left knee. He's expected to be out for the rest of the season and will miss the spring summer call-ups for the Spain U-20, U-21 teams. The LCL is I think like the hardest ligament to tear. It is the enormous
one that runs on the outside of your leg. And if you tear that one, you have done some damage. So I am not optimistic. He's back anytime soon, but he's young. He'll recover. Onward, David Meia. Oh, dear. That sounds not fun, Taylor. Thank you very much for the update. David, Juno is scouting P of Locke, 17 year old midfielder, slash forward for the Willington Phoenix women. That was my best New Zealand accent. Willington Phoenix women. Vlocke made a debut for the football firms. That's the New Zealand national team in their opening OFC qualifying game against Samoa coming on as a substitute in the 66th minute. She was a substitute again in the second game against the Solomon Islands and was credited for her first senior international goal for a deflection off the Michaela Foster ball driven into the box. Vlocke made her first start for the firms in the third game against American Samoa, but unfortunately left the field before half time due to concussion protocol. While overall making less of an impact than she has for her club this season, she played
95 minutes across those three group stage games as it's been called up again for the qualifying finals in April. And after clearing concussion protocol, Vlocke returned to the Phoenix squad as a starter for the March 20th game against Sydney FC showing good energy on both offense and defense. She scored the Phoenix's opening goal running onto a cheeky, broken-un ship and beating the keeper at the near post and followed up in the second half with great vision to send the ball across field to none for a reciprocal assist. Very good. Pay a block on the other side of the world doing good stuff. Graham got another one. I do indeed. So Jen has been in touch scouting Chloe Sarway at 17-year-old left back for Chelsea for Chelsea women's team. A big few weeks for Chloe in late February. She signed her first professional contract with Chelsea, though she's actually been with the club since she was 10 years old. This weekend she got her first start with a senior team in their match against London City Lionesses. Within the first 50 minutes she had an eye catching slight tackle to stop a fast break and she never looked back from there. She left the
game in what looked like a planned substitution around the 60th minute replaced by Naomi Garma. So an already extremely talented 17-year-old who's now playing with and learning from Naomi Garma. If defenders can have a hype train then maybe she needs one. And this is me talking now. I did watch Chelsea during the week against Arsenal and the women's Champions League. Arsenal were very impressive. They won three-one. And I didn't realise that Chloe Sarway was on the bench in that game. So don't say the field during the week but the fact she's already in the squad for a team as strong as Chelsea says a lot about her potential at 17-year-old. I like the idea of Americans keeping breads on the bench. That sounds nice. A very English yes. Yeah, when they're English, especially the English. Interesting. Interesting, Joe. Give us another one, please. All right, I suppose I good. This is from Russell Finley, scouting Luca Bombino, 19-year-old right back and left back for San Diego FC. Bombino has started all eight of San Diego's matches in 2026 and was recently called up to the USU-20s. He's a left footer defender who appears comfortable on the right or left. He's tidy in the ball, a good passer and a solid defender. If you want to see an example
of what he can do, check out the play leading up to the penalty in the 31st minute of the San Diego FC versus FC Dallas game from a couple of weekends ago. He one touches a defender and hits a line splitting pass to David Vasquez leading to a penalty. I've been impressed with Bombino. I think he's already in above average MLS player and has a pretty high ceiling. Plus, Bombino is a fun name to say. This is me talking, you're 100% right? Lots to like, who can argue with that? It is a fun name to say. Bombino. Bombino. Yeah, that's great. Luca Bombino as well. Luca Bombino. There you go. He's ours though. I've got a report from Ed Ritter. I love to getting a report this week. He's got Ed Dream of Medi. The 16-year-old defensive midfielder for the Red Bulls. I love this one too. Five games and five stars from from Medi. His pass range was excellent. Nothing else need to be said about the match versus Charlotte. Why what happened? You all fluked into some goals and got really lucky, I think. Very good. Let's do a few more shots. Six times the luck struck at the bank. Joe, you got another one for us? Yeah, I know the Red Bulls won the Suns from Dustin Solven,
scouting Maddie Dos Santos left back for Red Bull New York. Dos Santos played the first 45 in Red Bull New York's game versus Charlotte on Saturday, but was hooked at the break with his team down 1-0. Maddie was not having an impact on the game. Win it. Well, not a good one. That's me talking. Winning just one of his duels on the ground or in the air. He posted only one tackle in two recoveries, but at least he wasn't on the field as his team were ripped apart in the second half after an early red card. We talked a little bit about this Red Bull Charlotte game earlier in the week. Charlotte just smushed a young depleted Red Bulls team and Dos Santos was unfortunately part of the crushing there. There you go. So he was the best player in the field for them then. No. All right, scouting reports. All done. Thank you very much to everybody who sent them in. We appreciate you. Total soccer show. Welcome back to the weekend. Do we come to that time of the week where Quizmaster Taylor Rockwell takes us through some questions. Now Taylor has asked specifically before we started this that we have a pen and paper. So he's going to have completely unbiased and empirical data. He's still not even looking to try and get Taylor look at his camera. Now the tab open. Thank you Ryan. I appreciate that. I'm frantically making sure I have the quiz in front of me and then I haven't made any mistakes. Ryan, I would give you plus one, but that feels like cheating. Who would ever give a point ahead of the quiz? You know, this one is inspired by an episode that is not yet published or a large percentage of the quizzes inspired by it. Because Graham and I did a soccer 101 episode this week on Uruguayan football, Uruguayan domestic football. And we were discussing how like the English
influence is just so very obvious in Uruguay. Why are we all laughing already? Oh no. I think I just put a message up to the screen that said Ryan is a teacher's pet by my camera's mirror. So nobody can read it. Really helpful. There we go. I was like, are you guys already laughing about the English influence of Uruguayan football? Wow. Good crowd. Good crowd. So inspired by Liverpool and Uruguay and Barcelona in Ecuador. I've got some club team names for you. And we have to figure out where they're from or things along those lines. We'll start with a more straightforward one. I would like you all to write down your answer. Which Italian club is believed to have the greatest influence on team naming the world over? AKA which Italian club has all or part of its name as a name in the greatest number of clubs? Oh, it's not just the English you've done this. It's also other clubs as well other countries as well. All right. Do we have an answer? We're going to hold up some answers. I'm going to show my answer to the camera here. Is that how we go through? I just want the answers recorded because there will be some
figuring it out as we go. So Graham, what is your answer? Do you ask a question one more time? I'm sorry. One more time. Oh, stalling for time. I see. Which Italian club is believed to have the greatest influence on team naming the world over? So basically which Italian club has had the most number of clubs kind of named themselves in that club's honor. Okay. Graham, I'm going to cover myself three ways here and give all three possible names. Internationale, enter or enter my lad. Okay. All three are applicable. Joseph. Criminese? That's all? But I've ruined it with Criminese. And right? I initially thought it would be a sand, like a sand marino, but obviously they're not they're neither a tea, a domestic tea nor are they technically in Italy. So I just said enter as well. I don't know. We start off pointless. Juventus is the answer. Inter have plenty. Really? You may have around 15 clubs around the world. I believe four alone in Brazil are named after Juventus or take their color scheme from them. Wow. That's
surprising to a flyer. I thought and I thought enter was an absolute gimmick. I couldn't. I thought I thought of enter as well. Ultimately didn't go with them because I wanted to say Criminese instead. But like I can't think of that many inter clubs. Like I feel like there had to be one that was more. But you are my radar. Yeah, one of Florida. That's all I had. I'm sure there's several others. But I think Juventus is just like Latin for youth. So that may be part of it. I played in a a wreck league team called into Yamam when I was younger. You proud of that? All right. Bodefogo de Fútbol de regatas, Bodefogo de Fútbol de regatas, Bodefogo football and racing club, a rowing club, excuse me, has had influence on teams in Brazil and South America. But also further abroad, Bota Fogo FC. Instead of one word, they've made it two words, both a Fogo FC, for example, plays in the Fogo Island league, which is the second division of which calf nation
will be, which will be at the World Cup this summer. One more time. Bota Fogo de Fútbol de regatas has had influence on teams in Brazil where they are from and South America, but also further abroad. Bota Fogo FC, for example, plays in the Fogo Island league, which is the second division of which calf nation who will be at the World Cup this summer. They were founded in 1980 and have only won their national league once, but they have won their regionally 22 times. Anybody? We got our other answers written. So hold on. Just to clarify, this is a club and a calf nation called Fogo FC that's inspired by Bota Fogo FC. Yes. Right. Okay. I'm going to need to get in what country do they play? Yes. Okay. I have an answer. Wow. This national team made it to the quarterfinals of the 2023 Afcon if that helps you at all. We have gone answer. All right. Ryan had his answer written down first. Go ahead, Ryan. Is it Cape Verde? Ryan says Cop Verde. Anybody else? Cop Verde. Joe. I have South Africa written down. We will have to take my word for it.
Africa. It is Cop Verde. Well done. Well done, Ryan. One point of peace. All right. Speak it if South Africa. South African side Cape Town Spurs. This is what are the weirder ones? We're formed in 1970 with a name inspired by Tottenham. That was their name then and it's their name now, but it was not their name for a period from 1999 until 2020 when they entered into a partnership with which European club prompting a name change to reflect their status as a feeder club for that European club. Oh, wow. Who was the club that briefly led to that name change? Can I have the years again? Sure. The main years would be they it was appeared from 1999 until 2020. They changed the name from Cape Town Spurs. Here's another one for you. Just a little hand if you need it. When Cape Town Spurs were formed in 1970, the team in question had already won their domestic league 13 times and were in route to winning the European Cup the
following season. I have my answer before you said that. Yeah, so I don't have my answer yet, but I'll just write something random down. I think Ryan and I have got to say one answer. I'll be right. Yeah, that was right. Yes, I do. That's what I've got. Cape Town Iax. Cape Town Iax. Oh, well done. That's why I asked for the years because I actually know what South African players and those years. All right, Joe. I have Viren written down. You didn't write down Iax. That's what I'm talking about. All right. All right. And Ryan, you had Iax as well. Yep. There you go. Yeah, Cape Town Iax. I escaped down. Okay. Whoo. Two points of peace. Joe. That was the good answer. Yes, one of the one of the better ones. Pride of ourselves. If River Plate plays Boko juniors, we typically know it's a domestically clash. Unless it's club, I'd like to go River Plate, hosting Boko juniors de Cali, then it would be teams from which two nations playing each other. One more time club at let it go River Plate, hosting Boko juniors de Cali. Now the city name is one. I feel like it's that was a little bit of a giveaway, but there,
there's some tricky ones there. I have my answer. I've got my answer. Go ahead. It is so much faster this week than I have the other weeks. It's because of the distraction of the screen, which is go straight. I'm going to try to keep you see this. That's right. Yeah. Okay. I'm ready. He's got boys. It's like, what's up? I'm not getting consulted this week. Joe, do you want to go first? Joe, you go first. Sure. I have Uruguay against Colombia. Okay. Ryan? Oh, I only have one nation. They're not bad as well as domestic. Well, unfortunately, you two weren't paying attention to the question. Joe right on the second night. Joe gets the point. You're right on both of his drinks. I've got Colombia, but I think I've realized there's another one. Oh, I have. You'll hear. You'll remember, then it would be teams from which two nations playing each other. It was the question. Messed that. We're back and maybe. There you go. Joe was in. I attempted to give Joe two points to the correct answer just to make you all really. I'm full on so far from my ex. I know. All right. As I hit my mic, this English club, Joe. Okay. No, you're good here. This
English club inspired the name of a certain Ghanaian side when they were founded in 2004. They won their first and only league title in 2011. This English club inspired the name of a certain Ghanaian side when they were founded in 2004. They won their first and only league title in 2011. Do we need one more hint? The Ghanaian side was founded in 2004. Yes. Okay. It would be nice, but not a hint. Think of famous Ghanaian players from around that time, or maybe most famous Ghanaian players of all time. Okay. That might help a little bit. Maybe. We'll see. I'm not sure I understand the question, but so the the club ready and Ghana has been inspired by an English club. Yeah, you want to name the club? Similar to all of the questions. Yes, that is the question. But then there's a player being dropped in there. Just say just say some words, Graham. Right. I think Ryan's got it. I'm guessing. I hope I have. I'll strike out. I might have it wrong,
though. I usually do. Okay. Ryan should I help? Is it Sunderland? Oh, Ryan is incorrect. Good guess. It's the same player, though. I have I have West Ham written down. Joe is incorrect. Graham. Right. It was just as it just named English club. Correct. I'll go for Chelsea. Correct. Oh, yes. Michael Sian. It's actually Chelsea. Inspired by Michael Sian in his time at Chelsea. Better come Chelsea. There you go. That's all I was going for as my Ghana. Oh, that's a good shout to you. Yeah, he's up there. But sadly, did not inspire the name. There could be a Sunderland. A Sunderland club in there. You never know. Okay. This one, you don't have to write it down. You can buzz per round because I've got multiple hints. One of Sierra Leone's grand pay attention. One of Sierra Leone's most successful clubs took naming inspiration from which English club who currently play in the third tier of English football? Joe buzz. Yes, Joe.
No. No one's one incorrect. Good try. Anybody else? Where should go to the next club? Graham. Yep. Lincoln. Oh, it's going to be sailing. No more red amps on this one. They changed their name in 1954 after being inspired by a night of the realm. Joe buzz. Yes, Joe. Crawley town. I don't know why. Maybe last No, I just think the way you said Crawley's out as though you weren't sure it was real, but it's real. Yes, Graham. Cambridge. Right. Got to go. Stevenage. Hint number two. Both teams have a color in their name, but that color is not the color of their primary kit. Does that help? Oh, wow. That's a good clue. Color in their name. Oh. Oh. No. Oh. I don't, I don't remember you buzzing. Ryan. Joe, but. Incorrect. Joe.
It's poor color. That's white. Sure. What do they do? Or should we get our final hint? Okay. Well, final and I think the color of that primary kit is, I would say orange, but you could say tangerine. Ryan. Joe. Ryan. Yes, Ryan. Blackpool. The mighty blackpool. That is correct. Named after Sir Stanley Matthews and his blackpool side of 1954, blackpool slash mighty blackpool is the Sierra Leonean Club. Amazing. All right. This is so good. We've come to that note. We've come to the end of that portion of the quiz. We have three remaining questions. What are our scores? Is it three, three, one? I have one. I have three. Three. All right. Joe's got the one. Joe can come back. He's done it before. You can just go with like what's in my pocket this time or what's on the back? We're just like an MLS results from the weekend would be fine. Do I need my pen and paper? Do I need my pen and paper? You might want your pen and paper just to do some addition?
Maybe we'll see. So good. Or you can just wait in my paper. Yes. When is that going to come into play? Maybe it already did. Which friendly happening this weekend has the lowest combined FIFA ranking? So a lot of times I'll answer. I'll go back. A lot of times you guys get the correct answer and then change it. Because you're like, well, that's not fun for us both to get the right answer. And that's dumb. You should both just get the point for the right answer. So I felt if you wrote it down, you would not change your answer last minute. And we would have fewer ridiculous scorelines. That makes it like it's worked because we've had a couple people get the same point. All right. Which friendly happening this weekend has the lowest combined FIFA ranking? AKA which game produces the highest number? So if you take their ranks and add them together. Azerbaijan versus San Lucia. Rwanda versus Granada. Indonesia versus St. Kits and Nevis. Or San Marino versus the Faroe Islands. Joe Buzz. Oh, that's good. There's a buzz. I don't know. Just in case. I can all right.
Yeah, we can each guess because I didn't stipulate. We can each. We can each have. Okay. So I'm going to write it down. Can I have those games again? I got the last two. But it was coming Ryan. You would have lost the point. Azerbaijan versus San Lucia. St. Lucia. I don't know. Yeah. Rwanda versus Granada. Indonesia versus St. Kits and Nevis. Or San Marino versus the Faroe Islands. I have not some. Me too. Joe go first. Probably wrong. But I have San Marino against the Faroe Islands as the worst of the bunch. All right. Ryan Bailey. Oh, for the Indonesia one. All right. Graham Ruffin. I'll go for the Rwanda one. Come back to home, boys. San Marino versus Faroe Islands is the correct answer. No way. That's. I mean, I'm not disputing this. Is San Marino like the worst team in the world? There's literally the worst team in the FIFA rankings. I, I, I presumed the Faroe Islands, they came quite close to qualifying. Yeah. And I presume they would have been quite high. They, they won a bunch of games. We spoken with it last year. Quite high in the Baltic Sea. Hmm. All right. 124th in the FIFA World Rankings and then San Marino being 210th.
Push that one way back. I did not think it would be that. Azerbaijan versus San Lucia combined with 293. Rwanda went out of the same at 293 in Indonesia. Wow. San kids and ever. It was 275. Okay. I got married in San Lucia. So I'm aware of the rich soccer heritage, which I didn't see any of when I got married. They had a player for India. Your mom. I've seen you. I think. I wish they did. I think it was India. Soccer heritage. Conversely. Next question. Which of these matchups is the highest ranking? All good. This is the smallest number. Oh. Australia, Cameroon. Oh, no. Korea, Cultivore. The Republic of Korea, I should say. Saudi Arabia versus Egypt. Or Turkey A versus Romania. Australia, Cameroon. Republic of Korea versus Cultivore. Saudi Arabia versus Egypt. Turkey A versus Romania. Graham. You get to go first since you're still writing.
I'll go for Australia, Cameroon. Is like, sorry, are you writing out and then chat GVT reads it? Or what kind of. Is that a camera mounted from above? No, it's an iPod. I've got iPod pencil thing. There it is. Straight into Claude. All right. Graham says Australia, Cameroon. Ryan. Oh. I'm going to go for one that sounds the most. Ryan, there's never written down. Oh, that's right. I'm going to write down. You don't have to write down. I wrote it down. I'm going to go for the one that sounds most like delicious sandwich feelings. Turkey Remain. Yeah. Yeah. I think it's either Ryan's answer or the one I wrote down, which is what I'm guessing. Korea Ivory Coast. I think it is one of those two. I fear Ryan may be correct, but I don't know. I'm so happy. The comeback is fully back on. Korea Ivory Coast is correct. Woo. Yeah. Yeah. 22 and 37. It makes 59. Australia, Cameroon with 72. Saudi Arabia, Egypt 92. Turkey A. Romania. 74. That does sound like a sandwich though, Ryan. So do you have Australia's ranking in front of you? My logic was there.
I think they're shockingly high. 27. Yeah. That's pretty high. Yeah, I guess. Cameroon's just not very good. I feel, which is why I didn't pick that one. One more. I think I'm going to delete one of these because I think it's too obvious. It's so dramatic. I'm deleting this one. I'm deleting three points. Three points. Okay. One more. This is the tie break because you all have three, right? Yeah. Oh, I'm so scared. I like it better when there's nothing to play for. Should this be a buzz? Should this have to be a buzz? Or should it be? No, no buzz. I'm too scared. Okay, there could be a tie. Then I guess I'll have to find a tie breaker. Okay. You're going to hate it. Here we go. One more. Which one has the smallest number again, which is the highest. Okay. Like matchup. Netherlands versus Norway. Switzerland, Germany. USA Belgium. Mexico Portugal. Oh, wow. So all of those are happening Friday or Saturday, I believe.
What was Norway one? That would be Netherlands, Norway. Switzerland, Germany. Switzerland, Germany. One more time. USA Belgium. Mexico, Portugal. Mexico, Portugal. USA Belgium. Switzerland, Germany. Netherlands, Norway. Graham, I think I had to go first last time. So, Joe, you get to go first this time. My answer is written. It's locked in Switzerland versus Germany. It's my answer. That's the other one I'm thinking about. All right. Ryan is still writing somehow. Yeah. I'm just writing down in case you accused me of anything. I'm actually going to say USA Belgium. And Graham. USA Belgium. No. I felt scared. None of you got the point. Oh. Was it Norway? Norway, the Norway one. What was that? Mexico Portugal. Wow. It was close though, right? Netherlands, Norway is the highest one. The highest number. Norway can't be very high in the ring. Yeah. That's the one. Netherlands is 7, Norway is 30. Hang on. I thought that was the question. No.
No, no. We were trying to pick the best game. Yeah. Which best game. Sorry. The lowest one. Yeah. I think I confused the language there. So. Here we go. How many picture frames does Taylor Rockwell have in front of him? What? A metal type of clothing. Do I have on my desk? Chamele. Joe. Chamele. Chamele. Incorrect. Shoot. Right. You haven't had a guest yet. You haven't had a guest yet. Yeah. I don't know. Right. Just going to see that. All right. I'll say bracelet. Oh, Joe buzz. Incorrect. Yes, Joe. Watch. Incorrect. Shoot. Graham. Yes. Tell me. Yes. Tell me. That was the thing ever. Why did you call it? What did you say? Tell me. Ryan. Called a piece. This is my favorite Android device ever. It wasn't always metal. But it was turned metal at some point.
Ryan. Metallic at T-shirt. It's probably a hundred years old. I hesitate to call it an article of clothing. But I think that's the best way to describe it. Just start naming other articles of clothing here at this point. Ryan Hatt. Sure. Moving. Actually, moving literally in the right direction since we went from Hatt to shirt. Joe buzz belt. Oh, Graham. Yes. Oh, my God. This is ridiculous. Ryan glasses. Joe buzz. Yes. So close, Joe. Ryan, turkey remains sandwich. Joe buzz. Garner. What? What? Graham. Metal. Toad boots. Steel tool cap. You know that's close enough. There you go. Bronchew. Right there. There you go, Graham. Roger. Got it. Yes. I earned that. Well done, Graham. That means ridiculous. And I blame all of you for not properly rating Mexico and Portugal.
You should all feel shame. Oh, that was so funny. Mexico and Portugal. I mean, Portugal is sick. And that really does make a difference. The original one was going to be the one I deleted was you. England, you're a guy. But I feel like everybody would have gotten that. Because I did the lowest one. Four versus society. Dang. That was good. Congratulations, Graham. Very fun. Yes. You guys are fascinating, uh, guesses at that last round. Well done. I bet you do have a cup of peace on your desk. No, I have the wall of them. That's why they're not on the desk. I have the mountain on the wall. Oh, I see. Very good. Does anyone else want to know what else is on Taylor's desk? Have you got a bronze shoe? I know. Well, there's going to be tie breakers for next week. Obviously. We should hold that. We should hold that bird bird bird. Bird. Bird. That was going to top when the Arctic winter games came up. But I had the Arctic winter games. Yeah, that was crazy too. That's pretty much. I don't know how we could top that to be. That was next level, for sure. Very good. I should just start having more random stuff back there. All right. Thank you very much, Taylor, for another excellent quiz. Congratulations, Graham, for a hard, full and well.
There's a victory in said quiz. That is the end of the week. But not quite on the feed. Because, of course, we have the USMNT Belgium game coming up.
