Use Your Own Advice

About this episode

It's surprisingly easy to give someone else the advice you struggle to follow yourself.

We tell people to be patient while rushing ourselves.

We tell them to set boundaries while constantly saying yes.

We encourage them to stop overthinking while replaying our own decisions all night.

Use Your Own Advice explores the gap between what we know and how we actually live.

Sometimes the wisdom we give other people is exactly what we need to hear ourselves.

The problem isn't always a lack of knowledge.

Sometimes it's a lack of willingness to apply what we already know.

You may know that you need to leave something behind.

You may know that you need to apologize.

You may know that you need to stop waiting for permission.

You may know that you're making a problem bigger by thinking about it endlessly.

Knowing isn't always the hard part.

Doing is.

It's easy to sound wise when you're standing outside someone else's situation.

You can see their patterns clearly because you're not emotionally trapped inside them.

But your own life deserves that same honesty.

Ask yourself:

Would I give someone else the advice I'm currently ignoring?

If the answer is no, maybe it's time to listen to yourself.

Not every piece of advice is perfect.

But sometimes the person you keep trying to help is you.
