USA WBC Post Game Show 5-3 Win over Mexico

0:00This is the what are we doing Philly's post game show world baseball classic edition. Here's your host Kevin Flannery. Alex Thomas can't hurt me anymore. I am immune to Alex Thomas. Alex Thomas, no, cannot hurt me anymore. I did not want to deal with that was not happening today. Not happening. Alex Thomas cannot beat me. And yes, if you are a Philly's fan and you're listening to this podcast, you are very well aware of the trauma that Alex Thomas brings to me as a Philadelphia sports fan. And if he does not bring trauma to you, then we're not going to go there, Arizona Diamondbacks. Not going to go there. Philly's, Philly's, the USA beats up on Mexico. I would say beats up, but it was an interesting game to say the least.

1:01USA wins five to three. They score five in the third and then not again. They score five runs in the third and then they do not score again. They leave 11 guys on base, 11. The USA has a scoring runs problem. They can get on base, but they can't seem to get over that hump. They can walk. They're good at walks. I don't know how many walks they had today, but they're good at walks, but they can't seem to get the guy home. And it's a big issue. It is a big issue. They walk. They walk seven times today. They can't get the big run across. Yes, they won. They got good on an Aaron Judge home run. They Roman Anthony hit one as well. So they scored on the home run ball, but they need to get home on the walks. They need to capitalize. A team like Mexico is a good team. This was a good game.

2:02This was the first time in the World Baseball Classic so far that this game actually felt like the World Baseball Classic. And I will not say it now. US has clinched. They're moving on most likely, unless some crazy scenario. But I am not going to be doing a podcast tomorrow, because tomorrow's game starts at 9 p.m. And I need sleep. I cannot go to bed late. This is not, I can't live my life going to bed so late. So there will not be a podcast for me tomorrow. But there will be a podcast. Well, maybe there might be one for me tomorrow if the Phillies play on TV tomorrow. I don't know if they do. I don't have that updated in my notes. I gotta update that. Phillies are lost because, you know, why would the Phillies ever win when we're down? When we're down and when we're wondering about things, of course the Phillies keep losing. So the Phillies do play tomorrow. They play against the New York Yankees. And I don't want to buy tickets. I just want to see if they're on TV.

3:04I don't know why you can't just click the buy tickets thing. I mean, just to see the thing on the Phillies schedule. As I work to load that up other than that, Bobby Whit Jr. One of the players on here that I think is one of my favorite players now to watch is Bryce Tarrang. Bryce Tarrang is so fun. Bryce Tarrang is such a fun player to watch. I really, really adore watching him play baseball. And I will be looking into him for my fantasy team. And now that I'm knowing some of these guys, Schwarber, of course, spading 417 into this. He's got another hit today. And for it, bats, Jared Durand has a 2.083 OPS in the World Baseball Classic. He had two bombs today. Jared Durand's a good player. A lot of these players are good, good players. So, you know, Paul Schien's four innings, one hit, seven strikeouts. Absolutely dominating. That's who I won on the mound in a big spot. Again, Nolan McLean will go tomorrow.

4:05And we all know Nolan McLean, if you're a resident Phillies fan, you all know Nolan McLean is Mr. annoying. And Mr. I can't get a hit off of you because I'm not good enough. And I can't hit you because you are way, way, way, way better than I am. And how much you're going to hurt us this year. Yeah, that's going to be a problem. It's just, it's going to be a problem. But other than that, Harper did not look good today. He struck out three times. Not a very good outing for him. Judge got the home run, walked twice. Alex Braggman walked and struck out. Did not get a hit or score run. Cal Raleigh scored a run, no hits, but three strikeouts at Roman Anthony. Roman Anthony, it doesn't look like a guy I would, you know, say, oh, you're going to be on my team. He kind of looks miserable, like at the plate. His face not smiling, but he's working. He's down to business. Roman Anthony, the Roman Empire, his nickname up in Boston, that Caleb informed me of, 364 here. He got a crushed home run in whatever, in the fifth inning,

5:08while they were scoring runs. The ball was destroyed. So he's got an OPS of 1.169 and a 364 batting average. So a lot of these guys in the USA are hitting, but the OPS's are so high because they're walking so much. They're always on base. They're always on base. USA didn't use any pinch hitters today. There was a couple of pinch hitters in the Mexico team, but the USA in total, as they go to play Italy tomorrow with Nolan McLean on the mound, it is really prevalent to me at this point that the USA needs to capitalize on the walks. If you're going to play the Dominican Republic, or you're going to play Japan or Korea, you are going to struggle if you do not score the runs that are given to you because you're good at walking. But also, you might not be gifted guys on base all the time. So hitting the doubles, it's like I'm watching the Phillies. It's the same type of thing. You just have to go out there and execute. So we'll see what happens. USA Italy tomorrow night, when you'll hear that update

6:10for me, it'll be the next day, but the Phillies play the New York Yankees tomorrow. That'll be on NBC Sports Philadelphia. I can't for the life of me pull this up the way I want to. I got to update our document. But tomorrow, I'm trying to get it up because I want to read it out. It'll be on NBC Sports Philly. So if you want to turn it on, you can turn it on 1 o'clock against the New York Yankees. The US Luis Heal will go for the Yankees. He's 2 and 0 with a 2.25 and Tanner Banks will be the starter. So it looks like a bullpen game for your 5, 10 and 1 Philadelphia Phillies, or he's 0 and 0 with a 6 ERA in spring training. So with that being said, I am Ken Flatter. He's signing off.
