It's April 30th. Welcome in. This is U.S. News Today, where America meets AI. I'm Cory with the story. The U.S. national debt just crossed a huge milestone, topping 100% of the country's gross domestic product for the first time since. World War II ended. Fresh numbers from the Bureau of Economic Analysis put debt held by the public at $31.27 trillion as of March 31st, while GDP for the prior 12 months set at $31.22 trillion. That pushes the debt to GDP ratio to 100.2%, confirmed on Thursday. Experts like Brian Goldwin from the Committee for Responsible Federal Budget are sounding alarms, calling it risky ground that could drag down, future growth. He points out how piling on debt slows income gains, jacks of interest rates, fuels inflation, and eats budgets with sky-high interest payments. On top of that, it leaves America more open to pressure from global rivals and demands

real fixes soon to dodge a major money crunch ahead.
