7:06Played on the second Saturday each December What's y'all's first take on this? I know there'll be a lot of, you know Politics have become such a big part of conversation for America And everybody seems to have something to say This is one of those conversations Where I actually feel like Okay, we want to venture off into politics And have a conversation This would be a topic to broach All that other stuff Y'all could have all that other stuff And we could do that other places I ain't really into it But for this moment And for this scenario Let's put it on the table How you guys feel about that? Do you think that that's, you know Is that a good move? Is that a, like, what's your take on? I believe it's very, it's warranted It's fair You know, especially what's going on right now Or in war

8:07When you can get Something like that to happen Where they're not competing with other games People look forward to that If people, and when I say people If you got men and women That are signing up for the military They're basically risking their lives For the betterment of ours And pretty much everybody in this country I believe that's an honor That why not? That they deserve that They deserve that to be On television, competing against nobody So that as many eyes can be on them Watching them and it's more of a thank you And so, me personally I have no problem with it At all I don't see anybody that would have a problem with that The Army Navy game Just being on television And no other college game On at the same time, competing with them I believe that's what it is

9:07And if that is the case I'm all for that Man, I get it, I understand You know, I think we all know the significance of what the Army Navy game means To them and to everybody else And you know, he wants to have this You know, treated as like a national service event Basically So it's going to be all eyes on You know, this one particular football game This particular day almost like a Super Bowl And I don't have a problem with it all I just like TJ said I mean, those guys deserve it It's a fun game to watch every year If you know the history of it And the rivalry It is something to see Something to be a part of I believe this year they play In each weather for the ad giant stadium And that's always a great venue But listen man, those guys deserve it A lot of those guys They play football as a Basically a hobby of what they

10:08You know, they intend to do Lay it on down the road I'm not opposed to it I think it would be good for them All eyes on those guys And they get the showcase Another part of Their life outside of Being in a military So I'll be told then So I'm all good with it I like it too I know y'all know how much of an affinity I have for For the military Most guys don't go pro It's like several dozen In the history of these two institutions They go pro And if you understand how it all works If you don't go pro Like if there's not like an exception As to why you're not serving And going in and doing what you need to do You go out You go And you can send you on to

11:09You get you know There's a war going on right now Some of them guys that were in that game Are probably have been deployed And are hitting over there If they haven't already gone And have gotten there So I just think that Unless you're in a moment of time Where you hear the three letters That you never really want to hear Which is war You never want to You know to be a part of Of that taking place But yet it's a necessary evil And having men and women of service To step up and be those people That do protect our freedoms As y'all mentioned Is super critical It's super important But the idea that they get an opportunity To play a child's game You know they get to play a game That we all get to enjoy At some point Whatever capacity to it

12:09So whatever degree that that is We get an opportunity to play it And if you're able to do it At the college level Where you know And they're pretty good at times Army's been really good Lately Navy has historically been pretty good With how they play ball And they're pretty competitive Let's get my mic just further They're pretty competitive When these things you know I think this is a great honor I think it's a great gesture To honor our men of service And in a moment Where you actually would You know it's just another game I mean I don't know about you guys But for me when I think about it It's just another game So I just This mic I got changed What am I going to break? I just think we're at right now To make this game

13:09A staple of the football season And not have any type of other games Any type of other events Sports wise, football wise Taking place during it I think it's pretty dope man I think it's a dope gesture And I think it's great to honor those men That go out there and play I mean in the put context Into it They're talking about expanding the college football playoff And so Correct If the college football playoff is expanded They don't want the college football playoff Computing with the Army Navy game Because there will be many people tuned in To that college football playoff And if you are going to start adding more teams And you're going to start playing sooner You're not playing at this time And so It's completely fair And I'm not like you Live I don't have any family members At least not any immediate family members That were in the military house

14:10Marco was in law enforcement But outside of that None in the military But we all know The families What they go through We've been connected with people That have been in the military To those That are really, again like I said You're willing to risk your life For the betterment of ours And enough can't be said about that for sure Yeah, man Look just the mindset Of you know Those playoff Waking up on that game day Knowing that The whole The country is going to be watching those young men Go out and play football I can't imagine What that does for you mentally You know You get up for big games But to have your own day To go out and showcase your talent Just like the boss of those guys

15:10Aren't going to play pro football They're in the military So it's great for those You know If it does happen for those guys To have their own day To get excited about Everybody having their eyes on them And watching them play football Yeah, well Shots out to the decision Shots out to our Our naval academy And to Army our base Where they go to get educated And get prepared I'm a big time proponent Big time supporter Obviously and just wanted to have that conversation The heart conversations That people aren't really You know It's It could go one way or the other And I think that this conversation Is one of those conversations That to me i feel is a feel good story Because in the end It's bigger than football

23:21A wager of some sort of some kind that Matt Liner would ever give up his jersey or unretire it for someone to wear it I wonder what the odds on that would be, and if it were ever to happen Here's Matt Liner on, he was asked about the number situation and unretiring the number Here's what he had to say, I'm interested to get you all as a pinion after we listen to it, go ahead, run it There's been multiple times where people at USC have asked me if I would unretire my jersey for some five star prospect And do you want to know what I told those guys, great up I said, absolutely, I am never going to unretire my jersey for some random dude, who by the way now could wear number 11 and transfer after a year The only person that will ever wear my USC number 11 would be Cole, who's not there right now is at us Or two of my boys, if they end up going to USC and playing football, that is it

24:25And then Cole hit me up a couple of years ago, he's like, Dad, hey, Dad It's linebacker, I think he's going to see, he wants to wear your jersey, would you let him wear it? I said, linebacker! This ain't Lavaar, Arianton, and Penn State were in the sticks, bro This is A-C-A-C-U-S-E, so, so funny though, absolutely not, wouldn't that do it? Which is cool, a little plug for the sticks Have you ever had a number retire? No Lavaar I mean, y'all been good enough to have numbers retired, maybe a high school Yeah, my high school number was retired Would you be okay with somebody taking it out of retirement to wear it? And if they did, would they have to get your blessing in order to wear it? I don't know how it goes now, to be honest with you, I would assume that somebody would get in contact with me if somebody wanted to wear my number Because it's on the wall hanging in the school, so I'm not sure if, I don't even know how they would do it

25:33They just order another, they just order a new jersey on the wall You know what, I'm with Matt, man, you know what, that's 100%, I'm with Matt They're going to leave your jersey on the wall though, Plexico, they ain't going to pull it out of the frame and put it on a mat I don't blame them, you know, he earned it Man, one of the highest honors that you can ever receive as a player to get your have your number retired And that is earned And what that man accomplished in college, I mean, let's be honest man, he was one of the greatest college football quarterbacks of all time Man, three years he only had two losses, 99 touchdowns in three seasons And he's one of four quarterbacks that went back to back national championships I mean, you're going to unretire your number, just like he said with somebody else When your numbers retire, that's exactly what it means, it is retired And you're talking about the numbers that are the names that are retired at USC, Marcus Allen, O.J. Simpson, Reggie Bush, Palmer and Kayla Williams

26:42That's it So he earned it, and just like he said, I don't care if you call them selfish You're not wearing his number, and I like it, I'm with him 100% because he earned it as dead as they And I forgot to mention, he's a husband trophy winner I mean, how many guys are going to have those kind of accolades to pull your number down for somebody else to wear? So Matt, I'm with you I tend to agree, actually, if your jersey gets retired, it should most likely, it should stay retired Because I tend to believe that when you do that, when you take that step, you did that knowing so that it was a moment of finality when it took place Will we all agree on that? That's a finale, this number shall never be worn again Now, I made the argument points for Abdul to be able to wear 11 or to wear 56

27:43He wanted to obviously keep up with wearing 11 and for what it was worth, he wanted to wear 56 And he made his claim, and whether I agreed or not, I stood up for him But certainly, I do believe that there is a feeling of finality that is connected to a retirement of a jersey And he mentioned my name, which is interesting because what I've done with my number in college is the total antithesis of that But interestingly enough, people don't even know that I was the one doing it You know what I mean? The school wasn't informing me, there's no official conversations about who's going to wear 11 You know what I mean? It was something, it all started when, I tell the story, it's funny because Navarro was just on, he just went viral for saying he's the best linebacker coming out of Penn State

28:45It all started when I wanted Navarro to wear 11 You know, he was going through some life changes, some real, you know, just critical moments in his life And he just needed a reset and a reboot It wasn't anything else other than that And when he did the reset and he did the reboot, I told him, don't stop with the inside that you've changed And that you've addressed and the direction, you know, the things that you've had to deal with And Navarro wasn't a bad person at all, actually, it's not even about him being bad It was just him getting through tragic situations and there was an unfortunate situation that took place where they got to fight or whatever But I told him to clean up his to totally do a reboot and clean it all up Where my number, I built up a lot of good, good, you know, good, good will at the school, the community trust me

29:48Where my number and I'm going to endorse you, like he's wearing 11 because he has, he has really tightened up He's on the straight narrow and he's ready to be a LB for LB you, that was how the whole 11 things started Right? Then after that Brandon Bellwart, well, Kyrie Fortwart as well, we don't talk about him because he transferred, which is interesting But that just shows you how much power I really have over my number and offensive guys wear 11 There's usually a receiver that wears 11 every single year at Penn State So when people were trying to make the comparison, I didn't see, I really don't see the comparison I'm a brand builder and I'm like, if you want to, you know, I've tried to get guys to go to Penn State for years And one of the ways I get one of the most elite linebackers, guys that I played that position to go there is I'll be like, you should come to Penn State and wear 11 So I did with Michael Parsons, what I did with Abdul Carter, you should come to Penn State and wear 11

30:50So I did the Levar Arrington Right, like go to Penn State and wear number 11 And so to me, when you look at legacies that are connected, it's like, my number was never retired I think I would fill some type of way if you retired my number But a five star recruit says, I'm not coming to Penn State unless you're on retire 11 And I can wear 11 when I play there and they do it, I think I would be terribly offended by that I really would, in fact, while we were at it, I kind of at this point, I would be terribly offended if they put 11 on somebody on the defensive side of the ball And didn't get my blessing for them to wear it to wear the number Because of what I've done to build up, here we go, my number, that's my number Everybody else who wore it, they borrowed it

31:50Sorry, I look at it a little different and I figure you two would look at it that way Just because of where y'all were drafted, how you guys came into high school For me, I see where y'all are coming from and I actually see where Matt Liner is coming from Especially in today's age, what he said makes 100 This dude may end up coming here, retiring my number And leaving And leaving And so I do get that part of it And in the National Football League it should be absolutely no, no No, that's something that's permanent When you're not even here, your kids, your grandkids, they could always see your name being retired in that stadium And your jersey being retired in that stadium, I'm saying And that's a great thing that you earned Now for me, if I can't want to wear my number, I'd be like, yeah, fine, it's cool You're top recruit, cool, if you leave, you leave That's me

32:50I know Carson did it, Carson Let Addison wear it Carson is the best quarterback to come through USC And he let Jordan Addison wear it, Jordan Addison, obviously Lee's pit Goes to USC and he wants to wear it three, Carson was like, yeah, no problem Nobody has worn his sense, but he did do it for Addison So it's not like, oh, every year somebody comes in my number and they want my number That's what it's going to be You do it for certain kids that are really, they assume like that as the kids will say And you let that happen, that's what I would do It wouldn't be that big of a deal to myself, but I do get where he's coming from and where you're coming from Like, hey, nobody wear my number unless it's my son I do get that as well Which is funny because people were going crazy talking about it's nepotism How does Lovar get to wear, how does Lovar get to wear 11 at the same time

33:51It was a real, there was a whole bunch of like message boards where people were going crazy Thinking that if he's not as good as Michael Parsons or Abdul Carter, he shouldn't be able to And you know what you should have taught him It's best to be thought of as an idiot and open your mouth and erase all doubt That's what you should have taught him That's what you should have taught him It was an interesting conversation like it's nepotism First of all, the kid can play first of all like, let's get that out of the way I wouldn't, he would not be going there representing me with my name if he couldn't play For somebody to say that, it's just crazy It was crazy, man, I don't get up out of here But it kind of goes to the point of the brand of the number has taken on Kind of a personality of its own because some people don't Like they did this whole, like this poll If you had Navarra Bowman or you had Lovar Aarrington, Abdul Carter and Michael Parsons

34:54Who's starting, who's coming off the bench and who do you cut? And don't you know, I was cut almost by everybody I was cut by everybody Right, they had, most of them had Michael Parsons start and some of them had Abdul Carter start We're victims of today, man, that's all it is But you wanted to, I hate to do this You wanted the best defensive football players in college football history I appreciate it What you were doing in Cardinal, the NFL, people were saying what different Oh, Lovar actually went to a lot of probos also, but... We just didn't win When you taught college football, there's no question you wanted the best defensive players ever Everybody know that And I'm not, as a kid, I'm not glazing you, that's just aside Yeah, yeah, no doubt, no doubt Well, it's an interesting conversation These conversations will continue to take place It'll be interesting to see if anyone ever gets that number unretired Because USC is one of those blue blood schools and it...

49:30But gambling continues to be more legalized and in one place in particular in North Carolina Gambling sports betting in particular has brought in 250 million dollars in tax revenue sports betting to the state A ton of it goes towards North Carolina being able to bring in and attract major events, games, you know, MLS All-Star game, NASCAR racing, things like that But the conversation about this was basically wrapped into risk versus reward Do you guys see there being a drawback to sports betting becoming so legalized and so normalized with what's going on in sports today? Or do you just see it as it's a progression, they found a way to tax it, that's why some people say the same exact things about weed

50:37So I'm just curious are the drawbacks to what sports betting represents on the legal market or do they outweigh the positives or do you see it as the positives outweigh the risk factors? For the players I mean obviously the positive outweighs the risk factor because the salaries are... The money's going up. Much, much greater than when we played and it's not as if we just retired 30 years ago, the gambling money isn't able to players to make so much more money Are there going to be cases where certain players do idiotic things and jeopardize their career? Absolutely, that's on them, they're the dumb ones. And so have no sympathy for them, I really don't. And so as long as you're informed and I can just speak for the National Football League, they do a hell of a job with educating players,

51:39almost overboard with the education of do not bet on NFL games, do not gamble. You can't even go on a sportsbook during the season, you can't do this, everything is black and white. If there's no gray area with that and so for the players and the guys that are playing, I believe it's a great thing because you make more money because of it. Now there will be instances like I said where what happened in the NBA with John Tay Porter, he's been banned permanently, he made a bad decision. Now he got to live with the consequences of the decision he made, but for the most part man, guys are going to do what they need to do. Guys ain't going to jeopardize their career and when you have the outliers that do, they get put out. Something that when you say it allows the kids to make more money, so you're implying that the betting community is basically paying the NIL. No, no, I know in the NFL like gambling now, they get paid, they get paid for that.

52:43They get money through that. The players, they get a percent of money because of that. Are you guys doing is looking up? It's taking revenues of the teams up. It's definitely taking the revenues and that's probably why they're continuing. Because you guys, you got gambling companies that have done deals with the NFL and the team and so they promote that and sort of players get a percent of that. It's going into them salaries for certain. I mean the numbers are 100 percent. But where exactly is all the money going to is what is what? You know, ownership is the NFL has taken a majority of it, but the players do get a piece of that. And so, I mean it gets interesting. We're talking about the players because I started thinking about the risk of the people. What was your last share in the league? What was your last share in the league? 2013. I'm a guest and say the highest pay receiver 2013 was probably making 13, 14 million a year. The highest pay player now is making 40 receiver.

53:44That's doubled in 13 years. Almost tripled. Almost tripled. Right. And so, that's a part of it. I'd be interested, man. Sports betting is big. I think it has made the game so much more relevant because it's connected to so many different things. And today it was grabbed them pink slips or blue slip. You run it over here. You get that boom, boom, boom, boom. Next thing, you know, you make sure you get it or you pay it or somebody knocking at your door. That's how it used to be now. It's like all on the up and up seemingly. And it's growing. So, it'll be interesting to see as this continues to move forward what direction it goes in. This is up on game.
