太姥山，位于福建省东北部，挺立于东海之滨，三面临海一面背山。它北望雁荡山，西眺武夷山，三者成鼎足之势。相传尧时老母种兰于山中，逢道士而羽化仙去，故名“太母”，后又改称“太姥”。闽人称“太姥”、武夷为“双绝”，浙人视“太姥”、雁荡为“昆仲”。
