从1902年奉命修律到1911年被免除职务，沈家本开启了他人生中最辉煌的十年。在这十年中，他为此倾注了大量心血，不仅制定了诸多前所未有的新法律，还用近代司法理念改良了不少旧法律中的不合理内容，从而为中国法律从传统到现代的转型立下了汗马功劳，一举奠定了他在中国法律史上的地位。
