Having experienced all joys and sorrows of life, Devayya felt worldly living was no longer necessary. He approached a sage, asking for guidance on the path to liberation. The sage, perceiving that Devayya’s attachment to the world was not yet gone, said: “Liberation comes when, even with closed eyes, one no longer sees house or possessions. It does not require severe austerities, nor does it demand renouncing the world. By constantly remembering God’s name and following the path of righteousness, liberation comes naturally”. With this realization, Devayya bowed to the sage and returned home enlightened.
