雖然2019年起，山羌已從保育類除名，降為一般野生動物。但依「野生動道物保育法」規定，任意捕捉山羌等「一般類野生動物」回家飼養當寵物或宰殺，屬運法行為，恐面臨六至三十萬元的罰鍰。
.
另外，山羌由於叫聲如狗吠般，因此有「吠鹿」之稱，是台灣體型最小的鹿科動物 。從低海拔，一直到3千多公尺的山區，都有機會看到可愛的山羌喔！

除了斑比小鹿可愛，台灣原生種的台灣山羌也是很可愛啦！
