佛山狮头制作，始创于清代乾隆年间，距今已有200多年的历史。它的最大特色是造型生动传神，设色鲜艳美观，制作精巧坚固。佛山狮头的造型，一般是双腮、圆唇、明牙、震舌，两边嘴角后面还有细腮和9只细翅。艺人们还别出心裁地设想出一只狮角，把它做成拳（头）角、（竹）笋角、（麻）鹰角、鳌鱼角，外形十分醒目，故有"佛山醒狮"之称。
