Union President Faces Gun Charges, Put on Leave

Glenn Potter, the 66-year-old president of the New South Wales Electrical Trades Union, faces charges for unsafe firearms storage and handling, proceeds of crime. Police sees numerous guns, ammunition, parts, and $121,650 in cash from his home. The trouble started when firefighters responded to a kitchen fire at his Mt. Ausley property. They spotted weapons stored unsafely, which tipped off police to search the place the next day. Political figures weighed in quickly. Premier Chris Minnes called the allegations very serious and pledged to reject personal donations from Potter while keeping the union's support open. Shadow Attorney General Damien Tudahope revealed during hearings that 167 guns were found there. Potter showed up in bail court on Tuesday and got conditional release. He asked the reports of Wollongong Police Station three times a week, hand over his passport, skip drugs and alcohol, and avoid any firearm shops or purchases.
