In Durham, it's March 7th. Here's what is happening. Third seed in North Carolina rolled to an 85-68 win over 6th Deceded Virginia Tech, in the ACC Women's Tournament Quarter Finals. Sophomore Gart Laney Grant stepped up big, with a career high 21 points. The 17-year-old reclassified last year to play college ball early, and is filling in for injured preseason, all ACC star, Rania Kelly. Senior forward Nila Harris, a transfer from Louisville, chipped in 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her 5th double-double this season. She earned all ACC first-team honors from the coaches earlier this week. Guards Alina Arnazalo and Nila Brooks rounded out the double figure scores with 18 points and 6 assists from Arnazalo plus 10 from. Brooks. North Carolina fell behind early, but dominated the second quarter, outscoring Virginia Tech 29-11. Their defense clamped down hard, limiting the Hokies to under 35% shooting
from the field, and just 11% from 3 point. Range. Coach Courtney Banghart praised the team's quick adjustments against speedy guards. The tar heels improved to 26 wins and 6 losses, with 15 and 4 in conference play. They've won 5 straight and 13 of their last 14 games. Virginia Tech's Carly Wenzel led all scores with 26 points, mostly from free throws. North Carolina advances to the semi-finals for the 30th time, a league record facing 2nd City Louisville tomorrow at 2.30pm. It's a rematch after an overtime loss to the Cardinals back in December, but the team feels much improved now. This episode is brought to you in partnership with our sponsor.
