Athletic leaders announced the decision Tuesday ahead of the 2026-2027 season and they're already searching for his replacement. Davis' tenure kicked off strong with a run to the National Championship Game in his first year. The Tar Heels hit rough patches, missing the tournament entirely the next season, and bowing out in the sweet 16 the year after that. This latest exit followed them squandering a 19-point lead against VCU. Both sides spoke appreciatively about the split. The athletic director highlighted Davis' character, his roots as a player and assistant and the lasting memories he created.
