0:00On March 12, a British couple drowned while swimming off a beach in New South Wales, Australia, despite quick efforts by nearby beachgoers to save. Then, the 66-year-old man and 64-year-old woman got into trouble in the water and were brought to shore around 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Off-duty nurses on the beach jumped in right away, performing CPR until paramedics took over. Sadly, the emergency teams could not revive the husband and wife who were declared dead at the scene on Shell Harbor Beach. Local police praised the bystanders, especially two nurses and a young man who pulled the couple from the surf, saying their actions gave the pair the best shot at survival. The couple were tourists visiting with family members at the time. The beach had no lifeguards on patrol that day, which added to the challenges.
