UF AD: Golden's Extension Imminent, Highest-Paid Coach

0:00A March 25th, University of Florida Athletics Director Scott Strickland says the school will do whatever it takes to keep men's basketball coach Todd, Golden in Gainesville. The 40-year-old coach just led the gators to their third national championship and other programs are reportedly interested in him. Strickland made it clear Tuesday that he's confident Golden wants to stay long-term. Golden signed his current deal on May 6, 2025, worth $40.5 million through March 31, 2031. It includes a hefty buyout $16 million if he leaves before April 15, 2026, dropping to $11 million after. That, fans and boosters had worried about losing their championship coach so soon after the big win. Strickland moved to calm those fears, stressing that Florida values top talent and has already extended Golden's contract the past two years in a row. Now, a third extension could be coming soon, potentially making Golden the highest paid coach in the country.
