7News Just In — Two children killed in Melbourne rollover crash. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
But we're going to begin with the news of this Wednesday morning. First to Melbourne, her second child has tragically lost their life following a horror crash west of the city. After a four-wheel drive ran off a rural road before rolling, like to Andrew McCormack in Melbourne, Andrew, a devastating development. This is a tragic accident which the cause of is still being investigated. This happened just over an hour west of Melbourne out towards Backers Marsh at around 4pm yesterday. A car that black four-wheel drive and eight-seater car with seven children inside, and one woman driving has left the road rolled multiple times to children. Now confirmed as dead in that car tragically, a 11-year-old boy died last night, a seven-year-old girl died at the scene. They were airlifted to hospital along with a number of other children involved in that car who thankfully have escaped with what looks like to be minor injuries.
The 34-year-old woman driver is at the Royal Melbourne Hospital under observation behind me. Of course, lots of speculation around the state of Melbourne's roads at the moment. What I can tell you is that at this stage, it doesn't believe a pothole was involved in this accident. Those who drive that road online are saying that it is quite a well laid road, fresh tarmac, so it doesn't think that a pothole was involved, but the cause is still very much being investigated by a major crash investigator to spoke overnight. For my understanding, the scene was quite hectic with family coming as well. And there were people everywhere, witnesses who witnessed it. They stopped and rented assistance. And obviously with seven children, they were distressed and they were cared for by paramedics, members of the public and police. So as mentioned by the investigator, it was quite a chaotic scene yesterday. Lots of family members are heading there. Potentially, this woman, 34-year-old driver, was carpooling these kids home from school.
That is unconfirmed, but it looks like that might be the case at this stage. So we'll have more details throughout the morning. Oh, yeah. Just awful. Thank you, MacArthur. Here's your vote.
