Two children killed in Bowen Mountain house fire

0:007 NEWS WITH CHRIS REASON Good afternoon. We begin with a devastating house fire northwest of Sydney. Two children have been killed and their father and four siblings are in hospital after their home went up in flames early this morning. It happened just hours before the family was due to move into state. Nick overall has the latest. The boots are flowing here in Bowen Mountain where the two children believe to be ages four and ten tragically lost their lives after the fire broke out around two this morning. Its believed to have started in a bedroom while a father and six kids were home. The two story property on Lieutenant Bowen Road was engulfed in minutes. Neighbors rush to the scene including an off duty firefighter who lives in the area, trying to do everything they could to help. I tried to get there fast enough, horrible, every man is worse like that.

1:00Crews arrived soon after but the flames were already too intense, they were unable to get into the home due to the roof collapsing. This is a two story home and so it would have been very very dangerous for firefighters to access the home in the early stages. It's a very overwhelming situation, it's a situation that you really can't comprehend until you're in it. We want to help the community and we do our best and again there's a human side to this that you can't always explain. The father and four of the kids managed to escape, they took refuge in the home of a neighbor nearby before being taken to NAPI and hospital. They've been treated to smoke inhalation and minor burns. A GoFundMe has been set up to support the family. It was such a sad ending to it. It's just devastating to know that something like this happened. It's understood the mother of the children is currently in Queensland. They were in the process of moving sets to leave today.
