Tonight on TV Party Tonight, Jesse and I take a full look back at Legit, the short-lived but deeply personal sitcom created by and starring Jim Jefferies. Born out of a real stand-up story about helping a friend with muscular dystrophy experience adult independence, Legit begins as a blunt, profane experiment in empathy and gradually expands into a messy, humane portrait of a found family: Jim, Billy, and Steve. We break down the show’s development, casting choices (including the decision to cast DJ Qualls as Billy), how Season 2 broadened the scope beyond disability narratives, and why the move from FX to FXX ultimately sealed its fate. We also talk about where Legit fits in Jefferies’ career arc—what it clarified about his voice, what it cost him, and why it remains the project he’s said he’s most proud of, despite its early cancellation.
