The Kansas Department of Health and Environment put it in place on March 18 after a diesel fuel spill. High winds on March 15 knocked a fuel cell right into the water there. Testing came back clean. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Environmental Protection Agency's Region 7, and state health officials checked samples from the spill spot and downstream where the big blue and Kansas rivers meet. No fuel contaminants showed up above drinking water standards so contact with the water is safe again. They will keep monitoring water quality downstream to stay on top of things.
