Trusting God with What You’re Picking Back Up

Psalm 37:5 does not say commit your strategy to the Lord, or commit your expected outcome to the Lord. It says commit your way. The path itself. The whole thing, direction and results included. And then trust Him with what He does with it.

God is more interested in our why than our actions. He cares deeply about obedience and equally about the motivation underneath it. The Father loves us too much to let us set our hearts on temporary results that will eventually disappoint. He invites us to invest in something that does not fade, to keep our eyes on the Kingdom rather than on the metrics that will shift and change with every season.

Whatever you are picking back up tonight, whether it is a dream set down long ago or a responsibility approached with wrong expectations, the invitation is the same. Say yes to God. Do your best. And leave every consequence in His hands.

He is enough. That is the only success that lasts.

Ponder Tonight

God sometimes has us set down a dream, not to take it away permanently, but to give us the chance to pick it back up with different motivations and a more eternal perspective than we carried the first time.

Approaching resurrected dreams or responsibilities with the same expectations we had at a younger and less seasoned stage of life is one of the most common ways we set ourselves up for disappointment. The person returning to something is not the same person who set it down.

God's primary interest is not in what we accomplish but in the posture of the heart from which we accomplish it. Obedience with the right motivation looks fundamentally different from obedience driven by a desire for worldly success.

Charles Stanley's words are worth sitting with tonight: simply say yes to God and leave the consequences to Him. That single sentence is both the simplest and most demanding version of faith available to us.

Your Evening Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Search our hearts and examine our motives. Help us seek Your pleasure above worldly success and trust Your leading in every opportunity and responsibility we carry. Give us the courage to say yes when You call, and the wisdom to surrender what You do not want for us.

Keep our eyes focused on Your eternal Kingdom and not on temporary, fleeting results. Let us obey faithfully, do our best, and leave every consequence in Your hands.

Whatever we are picking back up, whatever dream or responsibility we are returning to in this season, may we do it as who we are now, with clearer eyes, surrendered expectations, and hearts committed to Your purposes rather than our own.
