Trump Visit: Farmleigh House

Well, Donald Trump has left family and his motorcade is crawling its way across the Phoenix Park to dear field, the residents of Edward Walsh, the US ambassador to Ireland. But Shantiful was that farmly? Shant Good Morning. Morning, Pat. So how did it go? Well, yeah, look, it's always a bit of pomp and ceremony, isn't it? Like from minutes before he arrived when they had a red Henry Hoover out, Hoover in the red carpet to make sure there was no leftover leaves or debris that had been falling here in farmly. And obviously the huge pomp and circumstance coming with that massive motorcade was just still making its way behind me. I think Donald Trump passed me about three minutes ago in the beast and the motorcade is still making its way past the doors of farmly as he heads on as he mentioned to dear field. They did a brief press conference inside probably about 20 minutes at all. I think the most extraordinary thing that he said, certainly not many ones, Bingo Card was he said that he was in favor of the

1:02United Ireland and that should happen now. His exact quote being that it's going to happen eventually at why not do it now. It would be a feather in everyone's caps for that obviously the British should have something to say about that, which I quite imagine they will. All right. So no embarrassing moments in that press conference. I mean, the Irish press corps of a lot of questions they'd like them to answer. Did they press them on Iran on Gaza? Yeah, certainly through questions on both of them to him when it came to Gaza. He basically said that it obviously isn't the case, but said look it's relatively peaceful there now and that's all thanks to us. It basically took credit for what had gone on and for there not being as much bloodshed now as opposed as there had been at different points and both very much was on that fault. That led to the inevitable question. Well, what about all the protests that are happening across Ireland today because of what you have been doing in the Middle East and in Palestine and the fact that many people, many Irish people think you're a warmonger and he said kind of played it

2:03off in typical Trump fashion said that well, he hadn't seen any protests himself on the way in. They mustn't be that big and I'm sure their friendly protests was his exact quote to that. On Iran, he said that the he thought that the conflict was going to end soon claims that Iran was dragging it out until after the midterms to try and damage him and the Republican party and that when it does get resolved that the oil prices and energy prices are going to fall massively. Of course, he said that in the White House back in March as well when he said that they'll drop like a rock which obviously didn't happen. Now, he was asked whether it was a shouted question or one that was, you know, audible to the president whether a president Connolly had raised the issue of Gaza with him. Did he have an answer for that? He seems to almost forget what he had discussed with Catherine Connolly less than an hour ago because a couple of things were asked about. One, just the general question, what did you discuss with Catherine Connolly and he deferred to one of his aides who said that they had a wide ranging conversation on a number of issues

3:04including energy and the availability of different energy sources through Europe. Presumably, he means drilling in the North Sea there which he's talked about quite a bit in the past which would be pretty much an ethema to Catherine Connolly. But then he was asked to follow up. Did you discuss Gaza? Did you discuss the Middle East and he kind of went, did we discuss the Middle East? Well, we discussed a lot of things. It went off on a tangent as if they almost were so inconsequential to him that he couldn't remember. Now, the good or the bad news is that he confirmed he will return to Ireland for the right or cup. Yeah, which I think Tisha got a good laugh on a little bit of a shock about now. He also said that it should be held at Turnberry which is obviously his own resource and then said, well, they make these decisions 10 years out. Don't they? The Tisha very clear to point out that it is a dare man or an Ireland that have it. So we're going to get to repeat all of this again, Pat. He's going to be back again for the golfing and all the pump and everything else that comes with him. And finally, the last question we saw, and Michal Martin display his talents as a Trump whisperer in the White House before St. Patrick's

Yeah, I mean, look, it was a lot of promising at the start talking about sports, not only the Irish Open, obviously, that's happening, but also given kudos for the successful hosting of the world's cup as well. And that was kind of always going to be Michal Martin's in today and talked to his advisors that he would soften him up with talking about the golf and then bring up, you know, bring up the Middle East, bring up Ukraine, bring up the things that are of importance to him.
