On March 16, President Trump stated over the weekend that the United States is overwhelming Iran in their ongoing conflict, now in its third week. One of his top advisors, National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett, said on television that the operation could wrap up in four to six more weeks, and they're running ahead of schedule. The U.S. has already spent $12 billion on the effort. Earlier this week, Iran hit back by striking an oil facility in the United Air of Emirates, sparking a fire and halting operations at a site that ships. Out more than 1.7 million barrels of crude daily. That's nearly 2% of global demand. Meanwhile, six U.S. service members died in a plane crash in friendly airspace over western Iraq, bringing total American losses to 13. Trump's comments follow his order for massive strikes that wiped out military targets on Iran's key, Carc Island. Both sides are trading warnings over the Strait of Hormuz. With the Iran threatening to destroy U.S.-linked energy sites and their new Supreme Leader
vowing to keep the vital shipping lane shut. President Trump is calling on nations like China, France, Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom to send ships and escort oil tankers through the Strait, while U.S. forces keep hitting Iranian drone, boat, and missile sites nearby. The United Nations reports up to 3.2 million people displaced inside Iran since the war began. Trump says he's not ready for a ceasefire deal yet, insisting any agreement must be rock solid, and likely include Iran dropping its nuclear plans, as military action continues to pressure the regime.
