Trump Speaks on US Casualties, Open to Iran Talks

0:00On March 1st, President Trump spoke out for the first time about the three U.S. service members killed in the early days of the conflict with Iran. In a phone interview from his Mar-a-Lago resort, he called them great people without standing records and said casualties like this are, unfortunately, expected in war. These marked the first American deaths during his second term. Earlier operations, like capturing Venezuela's Nicolas Maduro in January and bombing Iranian nuclear sites in June saw no U.S. losses. Trump noted the strikes have gone better than planned, taking out 48 Iranian leaders and sinking nine ships. He suggested the fighting could continue for about four more weeks. Trump has reached out to the families of the fallen and plans to meet them soon, possibly a dover air force base or the White House. He's also talked with leaders from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Jordan and others who are now joining the fight against Iran. The president remains open to talks with Iran, but said they should have come sooner.
