We got new updates in Donald Trump's attempt to rewrite Jan's six that his role in an insurrection as he continues to try to fight against properly installing a plaque that Congress mandates commemorate and memorialize those brave Metro and Capitol police that defended our our Capitol our cradle of our democracy that plaque which which was supposed to be installed five to six years ago on the exterior Western facade of the Capitol to commemorate some of the some of the most pitched battles and fights is the subject of a lawsuit that was filed back in June but now it's come up for new breaking news because in the middle of the night literally at 4am the park service and the architect of the Capitol has bolted the plaque inside in a on a
granite wall under a staircase near the rotunda blocked off to the public. But the law requires that it be affixed to the outside for the public to be able to know what happened behind those walls. Donald Trump doesn't want that to happen. He's busy rewriting history at the Smithsonian eliminating all references to his impeachment or roll on Jan 6th. But the police officers that were involved that day, of course, will not let this issue die. It's being led by Harry Dunn and Daniel Hodges Metropolitan Capitol police against the architect of the Capitol and now judge Friedrich wants to know in her new order whether bolting it anywhere at all at the Capitol is sufficient to satisfy congressional law and the plaintiffs respond no not at all. They can't get away with burying it in the basement or in the bathroom or in a hallway where none of the public can see it
and comply with the law. Who's blocking it from being hung? We know it's Donald Trump. More specifically, Mike Johnson, the speaker of the house. We cover it here on legal AF. Let's get it down to the update related to this lawsuit. This was filed again in June of last year. And here's what the law says that was passed in 2022. The 117th Congress passed a law to create and install a memorial honoring the officers like Don and Hodges. This is paragraph 21 of the complaint who protected the Capitol. The law noted at the time that members of Congress, a Congress were deeply grateful to the officers who protected them. In the sense of Congress, it is the sense of Congress that the United States owes its deepest gratitude to those officers of the United States Capitol Police and Metropolitan Police Department, as well as officers of other federal state and local law enforcement agencies who valiantly protected the United States Capitol members of Congress and staff
on January 6, 2021 against that pitched medieval battle. In the requirements of the statute, that was passed a law that was passed requires the following that the plaque must list all the names of all officers who responded to the violence that it be placed on the western front of the United States Capitol. That was over three years ago. Now they created a plaque. They didn't list all the names and then they hung it in a place that nobody could get to and then said to the judge, we're all good now, right? That satisfies the law. It does not. And in the new in the new filing by the police officers, here's what they told the court. This court has asked plaintiffs whether this case can be dismissed as moot. Unfortunately, the litigation must continue. Late on March 7,
staff for the defendant architect of the Capitol installed the January 6 memorial plaque in a temporary location. It did so in the interior of a ground floor entrance in an area blocked to the public. The plaque has been placed at the end of a hallway just inside an entrance on the west front of the Capitol, which is not open to the public. In fact, visitors who made an authorized visit to the plaque were ejected from the building by for doing so defendants decision to install the plaque in a part of the Capitol hidden from the public fails to comply with the law, which requires that the plaque be installed on the western front exterior part of the building. And then they go on to say that the defendants can't argue that the installation of the plaque in that hidden place satisfies the law. They don't even believe that plaques the right plaque that they created because the plaque has to have 3600 names on it has to be multiple plaques. And therefore, because defendants do not believe that the plaque they actually installed complies with the law at all, they can't now argue that the installation of that nonconforming plaque satisfies the law's
requirements. Sounds like a good argument from Judge Friedrich. Harry Dunn and Daniel Hodges have been very public concerning the plaque and what happened on Chad six and to remind you so we never forget here's a clip of some of their interviews. It was kind of surreal on inauguration day having all these people wearing mega hats. They saw me and they saw my uniform. They had recognized who I was. They thanked me for my service. And it reminded me of January 6, 2021 because on that morning, they thanked me for my service too. And then they went into the ellipse and listened to Donald Trump speak. And Trump was told that they were armed and he didn't care. He told them they had to fight, fight, fight, fight, and then they sent them to the Capitol. And once they went to the Capitol, they didn't thank me anymore. They called me a traitor telling me to remember my oath.
I was beaten, crushed, kicked, punched, surrounded. Someone reached underneath my visor, tried to gouge out my eye. And all these people were just pardoned by Donald Trump, who says that they were the real victims, that they were the patriots. I don't understand how anyone can believe that. Donald Trump, everything he stands for, is anathema to me. But he is the president of the United States. And he's going to leverage that
power in terrible ways. And one of the first ways he chose to do that was the pardon everyone from January 6. You tried to stop the transfer of power. And you served the will of the people. January 6 has been a part of your life. I have those images of you in my mind of being at every single public hearing. Accountability matters to me. And accountability I think will bring healing. So I'm going to minimize January 6 and act like it is something we should get past. Don't think about it, minimize it. Normally, I would get angry. And I'm not going to argue with individuals anymore, especially over facts. I'm not going to continue ramming my head into this wall, expecting that wall to move. Now the architect of the Capitol has said not his call. Speaker of
the house, Mike Johnson won't allow the plaque to be put up. Donald Trump doesn't want the plaque to be put up. Tom Tillis, a senator outgoing, he's in favor of the plaque. So he had installed on the Senate side, but not in compliance with the law. We, as American people, can't allow those, the honor of those who died. There were five people that died, including insurrectionists to be sullied further by burying a, a aggressionally ordered plaque, sullying it by having the aggressionally ordered plaque buried and, and, and, and, hidden from the public. One of the things that will change, of course, hopefully with the midterm elections, the replacement of Mike Johnson, as Speaker of the House and of the Senate, is that this plaque, the memory, the history of John VI, will be remembered, will be memorialized
at the, at the site of the pitched battle, the medieval hand-to-hand game of thrones battle on the western portico, the western terrorists. But that's only going to come with a new election, because you can see for as long as Donald Trump is going to remain in office, they're going to continue to try to appease him and rewrite history, eliminate history, that is unfavorable to him. And that's what we're watching, time and time again when it comes to John VI. This is the same president that gave a part into 1600 people who were insurrectionists, many of whom have gone on to commit other crimes, and been convicted of other crimes. So if you're going to do that, if you're going to order that the Smithsonian Institute, and all of its versions, eliminate references to your impeachment, eliminate references to the John VI at all, that of course, you're not going to want to have the plaque prominently displayed, just like you're not going to have two presidents, Obama and Biden,
who you dislike, have their portraits displayed, and in petrol and fashion, have them hung either in the bathroom or replace Joe Biden's photo altogether with a crass illustration of an auto a pen holding an auto pen or an auto pen to try to troll America and Donald and Joe Biden. But we're glad you're here on legal a, we don't stand for such things, we call for decorum, we call for respect, we call for public acknowledgment of what happened on John VI, we'll continue to do it.
