Tropical Cyclone Narelle: Three-State Path of Destruction

0:00The latest headlines, weather, and stories, right here on Sydney News today. Tropical Cyclone Rail made landfall on the Northern Territories East Coast at Cape Shield around 3.30 a.m. local time. The category three storm-packed wind gusts up to 170 kilometers per hour near its core, and was moving west, southwest, at about 17 kilometers per hour. This marks the first weather system in more than 20 years expected to cross three states and territories. It first hit Cape York in far north Queensland last Friday, before pushing into the territory. Thankfully, it stayed north of communities on Groot Island, sparing them from the worst of the storm. No major impacts have been reported there so far. Officials with the Bureau of Meteorology say Narell should weaken into a tropical low as it tracks across the top end region. From there, it's headed toward northern western Australia, and forecasters are keeping a close eye on its path for any changes ahead.
