About this episode
Kirstin discusses her training and what it has looked like as she prepares for the 70.3 in Salem this weekend. It sure came up fast with only about four weeks after her Ironman in Coeur D'Alene. The main topic this week is recovery and Kirstin dives a bit deeper into why it seems to take so long after an Ironman event or similar distance. Some articles say it can take 4-6 weeks or longer to recover. Why is that? In this episode, we also explore what cartilage "stress" is, what oxidative stress is, how your immune system is affected, your GI tract and, simply, what you can expect after an Ironman. We talk about some of the symptoms you may experience as well as ways you can leverage nutrition, rest and movement to help get your body moving again depending on your goals. There's a different approach to recovery depending on if you have a race coming up shortly after or enter into off season for a bit of reprieve before starting up training again. No matter what your goals, we discuss how you can optimize this time to rest and recover so that you're ready for whatever comes next.
