Trans Woman Convicted of Murdering Ex-Partner

0:00On March 25th, a 43-year-old trans woman from Presteton, North Wales, named Orrin Makepiece, has been convicted of murdering her ex-partner, 41-year-old Stephen Rothwell. She stabbed him once in the chest at his flat in Macklesfield Cheshire last August 19th. The jury at Chester Crown Court delivered a unanimous guilty verdict after a three-week trial and just under three hours of deliberation, meaning she, now faces life in prison. The two first met in a men's prison in the early 2010. Makepiece was there for wounding someone while Rothwell had been locked up for murder. Prosecutors said she stabbed him on purpose the evening of August 18th, spent the night in his home, then headed back to Wales the next morning. Makepiece claimed during the trial that Rothwell grabbed a knife first and it accidentally went into his chest as they grappled. She broke down repeatedly while testifying and even refused to return to the stand. Meanwhile, Rothwell had been angry that night, threatening another man over a girlfriend.

Makepiece called 999 from Presteton around 1043 pm on August 19th, admitting she killed her boyfriend. She had already confessed to others beforehand and was arrested the next afternoon. Makepiece showed no reaction to the verdict and stays in custody until sentencing. Her past includes serious violent crimes like stabbing and assaults, painting a picture of repeated trouble on both sides.
