Trade deals with China, Emergencies Act use, bye bye Bichette, and more

Prime Minister Mark Carney strikes a deal with Beijing to allow Chinese EVs into Canada, in exchange for a break on canola tariffs and other products. The agreement marks a new direction in Canada’s relationship with China, that some observers worry could come at a cost — both domestically, and with the U.S.

Also: The Federal Court of Appeal rules the Trudeau government overstepped by invoking the Emergencies Act to clear convoy protests that all but shut down Ottawa nearly four years ago, saying the demonstrators ‘fell well short of a threat to national security.’
