Top of the World Tower Opens on Pinhoti Trail

Hikers and Northeast Alabama have a new vantage point on the Pinhadi Trail, the state's longest hiking path that winds through ancient Longleaf Pine, forests and historic native lands before linking to the Appalachian Trail in Georgia. The top of the world observation tower on Terrapin Hill officially opened on March 13th. Thanks to the Conservation Fund, along with environmental groups and private donors, this tower provides stunning panoramic views across the... Southernmost 50 miles of the trail. From there, you can spot Flag Mountain to the Southwest, here in Mountain to the Northeast, and even Oak Mountain far off to the Northwest. Local leaders and trail enthusiasts are thrilled, calling it a major milestone that showcases the trail's progress. Partners like Kusa County, the Alabama Forestry Commission, and the Alabama Hiking Trail Society pitched in alongside donors such as Fred and Alice. 1:00This spot caps more than 15 years of work to connect the Pinhadi from Flag Mountain in Wailguffga State Forest to Rebecca Mountain in the Bersta, Talladega National Forest. While gaps remain, the tower stands as proof of what's possible and motivation to keep building.
