It's March 24th, Birmingham News Today starts now, AI-powered and ready. I'm Corey with the story. A Birmingham nonprofit called Positive Maturity is calling for nominations for its 2026 top 50 over 50 awards. The program honors people over age 50, who lead and serve in their communities across Central Alabama. These folks make real changes through business, volunteering, arts, healthcare, and more. Now in its 13th year, the awards spotlight 50 standout individuals each time. Positive maturity started back in 1972 to help older adults stay independent and connected. Today, it serves four counties, with over 1,200 volunteers, logging 150,000 hours of service annually. Older adults in the area are more active than ever. Many work into their 70s and 80s, start new careers and care for family while giving back in big ways. This shift shows how positive aging builds stronger communities.

You can submit nominations online at top 50 over 50.com until Friday, April 3rd. The ceremony happens Thursday, July 23rd, 2026, at the club Birmingham on Red Mountain. By recognizing these leaders, positive maturity keeps inspiring everyone to stay engaged and make an impact no matter the age.
