Ticketmaster Settles Antitrust Lawsuit, Fans Still Unhappy

The case claimed they hold an illegal monopoly over live events in the United States, controlling ticketing and promotions. This came right at the start of the trial in federal court in Manhattan. A term sheet for the deal was signed last Thursday, but the judge only learned about it late Sunday. Judge Arun Subramanian was furious, calling the late notice entirely unacceptable. A lawyer for Live Nation opposed declaring a mistrial and pushed for the trial to go on. The lawsuit, filed in 2024, accused live nation of using threats and long term contracts to block competition and raise prices for fans. The company insists artists and teams control ticket prices and sales. Some states may still pursue their own trials, and neither side has commented further yet. This follows years of fan complaints, including issues with artists like Taylor Swift.
