Thomas Massie Wants Pete Hegseth Impeached

About this episode

The Iran War has lasted much longer than anyone in Trump's orbit ever said it would, and it started without approval from congress. It's made the cost of oil skyrocket and increased the cost of goods over the world, not to mention the lives lost from this unnecessary war. For these reasons Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie has introduced eight articles of impeachment against Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. Join Don and guests to discuss this story and much more.🍋

Today, I'm Eastern Time here in the Don't let me show the Don't let me channel. Happy that you're here. Liking thumbs up, first order of business. I see you guys in the chat this morning. You're wearing to go. Which one do I like? I like this one or the other one. I eat more glasses than Fred, Sanford, and Sanford, and for those of you who are old enough. Remember the drawer of eye glasses he had that he used to fumble through? If you don't, Google it. You'll see what I'm talking about. It's hilarious. Anyway, welcome to the show, everyone. Glad that you're here. I can see better out of these. Glad that you're here. Again, as I said, Liking thumbs up. Boy, we have a doozy for you. We're going to talk about some things that are extremely uncomfortable. One thing, and that is, have you guys heard what's going on with Maclamore?

Yeah, that's doozy. When we talk about it, I mean, when you talk about that, you could get canceled. Or accused of being anti-Semitic. And that's part of the problem, part of the issue, I should say. Good morning, everyone. Thank you. Hi, Texas. I was just at breakfast with someone from Dallas this morning. Fort Worth, as a matter of fact. Yeah, so remember the drawer of glasses. Some people do high-heasts in Texas. Thank you. A lot of folks from Texas in this morning. Okay, so I want to get right to it because we're going to start with Pete Hegseth. You know, Pete Hegseth, by the way, let me give you a little secret. He's about to base the possibility of impeachment. So let's talk about Pete Hegseth. But has anybody noticed that Pete Hegseth became the secretary of war? It should be the secretary of state because when he started the secretary of state and then they want to name it to the dumping of war. Since then, he has been running a one-man audition for America's next top alpha male.

I mean, it's kind of one wonders like what Obama said about, you know, Donald Trump's obsession with numbers. Right? Why he's so obsessed with being the next top alpha male? Dude, testosterone. It's like the dudes at the gym, they all male gym. We don't want women. Okay, I know I'm going off here. They don't want women in their gyms. And they have this whole obsession about trans. It like it doesn't really make sense. Like, yeah. We want to all do gym. Okay. I mean, yeah. Every five minutes Pete is lifting something. He's flexing something. He's yelling something. He's sticking out his chest. Dude, dude, he's got that. What do you call it? The hanker. Look out.

I mean, Andy, what do we call it? I wanted to, I forgot that we were talking about this. We were calling him. Can we see G.I. I was going to say, Andy, can we see G.I. Joe in action? Can we call him P.I. Joe? For Pete, repeat. Come on, P.I. Joe is a thing. He's like a, he thinks he's G.I. Joe. Look at him. I mean, I don't know about you. I'm still not convinced. Ladies, hot, right? I'm still not convinced. Okay, Pete, you need to relax. We get it. You like to bench press for whatever that means. You like to bench press. You like a good dumbbell while you're staring down the camera. It's all performative. But here comes the, this is the real strength test, test of strength right here. Can Captain Criatin bench press eight articles of impeachment? That's the question.

Yes, Donald Trump's secretary of Woody calls war, which is actually the secretary of defense, is facing impeachment. And unfortunately for him, you can't flex Congress into submission about that. He can't bench press them. He is a dumbbell. Somebody says in the comments. It's actually a smart thing. We didn't think of that one. And before anybody gets lost in the politics of whether, you know, those articles of impeachment go anywhere. Can we please revisit the question that everyone has been dancing around since this man walked into the Pentagon? Please. How the hell? Let's be honest. We're going to go through it. I, because I like, I like to give my point of view, which is a bit different than opinion. But if I give a point of view and sometimes, sometimes an opinion, I like to back it up with facts. Right. If I'm giving you a point of view about something, I like to give a few facts. So how the hell do petex up? Get this job. Not how did he get on morning TV? Not how did he become a Trump favorite? How did he end up running petex that of all people?

Running the most powerful military apparatus on earth. And just so we understand how unusual petex has passed to the Pentagon was, let's compare resumes. And look, I don't want to go back through all of them, but I think like the most recent is enough. So the most recent person who preceded him, right, is Lloyd Austin. And before Lloyd Austin became defense secretary, all right, look at all the metals. Now that is a man. Pete. Before this man, Lloyd Austin became secretary of defense, he spent 41 years in the United States Army. And that's important because people like to talk about merit and meritocracy. Anyone who spent 41 years in the army deserves a large degree of merit. He's a battalion commander. He's a brigade commander, a division commander, a commander of U.S. forces in Iraq, vice chief of staff of the army.

This one is not at look. This one is no easy peasy commander of sent com. And then the man retired as a four star general. Okay. So if you want to talk about meritocracy and DEI diversity, equity inclusion and blah, blah, blah, and black people on the merit, they had taken jobs from the white guys of the white book, whatever. Let's now look at your Brigadier general, all those things head of sent com 41 years and then petex set also served his country. He was deployed to wantonamo, a rock in Afghanistan earned two broad stars, but his path was very different. National Guard officer veterans advocacy author and then oh wait a minute hold on. There's there's no more. Oh okay, there's no more. Okay, so that's a national guard officer veterans advocacy author and then Fox News host.

And from Fox and friends weekend addition, by the way, to running the department of defense. I mean talk about over a qualified for this job. And they have the nerve to talk about diversity, equity and inclusion and meritocracy and they are not they are demoting or not promoting black military members and officers and taking people's names off ships and things that that from them that they deserve and earn from their military service. This is farcical from that the weekend host of Fox and friends to running the department of defense. You cannot make this shit up. That is not even climbing the career ladder, right? I don't even know what you call it. That's even that's more than an elevator. That's like a rocket ship. He went from that to from a television studio straight to the Pentagon. That was like be me up Scotty on Star Trek.

Like how the hell did this happen? And yes, Secretary of Defense is a civilian position. You don't have to be a four star general. You don't even have to have have served in the military. But when you put these two men next to each other, the difference in seniority, military command, Pentagon management experience is ginormous. Lloyd Austin ran sent com. Pete Hegg set was on the couch at Fox and friends and somehow both rose ended at the exact same desk. Pete's resume might qualify him to discuss military on TV. It should not automatically qualify him to manage nuclear weapons, global intelligence operations and the lives of hundreds of thousands of service members. His supporters called him a change agent when he was appointed. Bullshit. I need not to whisper that bullshit. That's I don't have to whisper it bullshit. A change agent. Is that what you call being unqualified? Inept.

Is that what you call incompetent change agent? I'll be okay fine. I guess Donald Trump is a change agent to him. I kind of think like Lloyd Austin is to Pete Hegg set. What Barack Obama is to Donald Trump. Both black and people who you will never manage to live up to their accomplishments. Losing weight can become a full-time job if you let it. What am I eating? Did I work out? Am I making progress? Why did the scale go up? And after a while, all that thinking about it can be exhausting. That's why I like the idea of having actual support instead of trying to figure everything out by yourself. And that really stings this administration because it really throws their entire argument out the door. And that's why all the anger and the iron for the folks.

Can you imagine being one of these guys? And the people who preceded you who both happen to be accomplished intelligent black men are way better at just about everything than you are. Well, way better. That stings, right? But it's the truth. So we know this whole change agent bullshit. We know that is Washington language for he doesn't have the experience, but maybe confidence will cover the difference, right? It's always caught. You know when people say women all the time women of all different ethnicities say, man, if I just had the confidence of an incompetent white man and incompetent. Yeah, the confidence of that. There may be set that confidence is going to cover the difference. It nearly didn't it didn't it doesn't cover the difference three Republican senators joined the opposition leaving his confirmation deadlock at 50 50 JD bands had to cast the deciding vote.

And then now everyone as we are all here just talking. We have Kentucky congressman Thomas Massey he has entered the chat once again. And he is now introducing eight articles of impeachment against Pete Hegsett. So that's four plates of impeachment on each side of the barbell. Pete Hegsett. The accusation is that he carried out and continues US military action against Serone without congressional authorization. They're saying that it is basically illegal or are unconstitutional may be a better way of putting it. And that according to him he says it's a violation of the war powers resolution. Here's Massey. Impeaching Peter Brian Hegsett, Secretary of Defense for High Crimes and Misdemeanors. Resolved that Peter Brian Hegsett, Secretary of Defense, also referred to as Secretary of War by the administration is impeached for High Crimes and Misdemeanors.

And that the following articles of impeachment be exhibited to the United States Senate. Articles of impeachment exhibited by the House of Representatives of the United States of America in the name of itself and of the people of the United States of America against Peter Brian Hegsett, Secretary of Defense. In maintenance and support of its impeachment against him for High Crimes and Misdemeanors. So did you guys know that Peter Brian, what should we call a Peter Brian? Peter Brian, Peter Brian Hegsett, you get in here. So Thomas Massey has a point there. What is happening is insane. But I mean let's not forget before Peter Brian Hegsett walked into the Pentagon. His biggest qualification was pretending to be strong and angry while holding Jim equipment, badly, awkwardly, and shitty. I mean, come on, God.

Along list of scandals since he has been in the job and we all remember signal gate, right? You guys remember signal gate, Pentagon Inspector General found that he used his personal phone and signal to talk about confidential operational details, including aircraft numbers and launch times. Watchdog even said that he created a security risk that could have endangered our soldiers or the mission itself. Our own secretary of defense. Think about that. The man in charge of protecting America's military secrets had the Pentagon Inspector General saying his own communications created a risk to the people flying the mission. If you wrote this for reality TV, people would go, no way that's not true. I mean, you couldn't write this for some reality TV show on Zeus network or it could be like a Tyler Perry special.

Now during a Pentagon prayer service, Pete delivered what sounded like a biblical battle cry except most of it came from a speech. Remember that from Samuel Jackson that he recites before shooting people in pulp fiction. Roll it. This prayer was recited by Sandy one, which is one of the sandies to all sandies, all those a 10 crews prior to all C. Sarmishans, but especially this C. Sarmishan that happened in real time. They call it C. Sarm 2517, which I think is meant to reflect Ezekiel 2517. So the prayer is C. Sarm 2517 and it reads and pray with me, please. The path of the downed aviator is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of camaraderie and duty shepherd the loss through the valley of darkness for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children.

And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to capture and destroy my brother. And you will know my call sign is sandy one when I lay my vengeance upon thee. Do we have the Samuel Jackson version of this and amen and he goes amen and we don't have a Samuel Jackson because that was one that had the compare. If we can find the comparison to that because a people compare it. That was a miss. We miss that because they had them both saying it at the same time. Find that for me quickly. So this is a man who claims to be such a a Christian and biblical and knowledgeable about the Bible and God and religion. That he used a pulp fiction reference and didn't know that it was pulp fiction and then said amen after it.

That shows you about a lot of what's happening here. Performative patriotism performative Christianity with these guys. It's all a ruse. It's all performative. That's not the book of Ezekiel. That's the book of Miramax. I mean, who's a director again? That's the book of Quentin Tarantino. That's the book of Tarantino. The Pentagon, Pete Hicksett, Peter Brian Hicksett, the Pentagon is not a cable news green room. You cannot tease an airstrike. That was a secretary of defense of the United States of America. This department deals with nuclear weapons. It deals with intelligence. It deals with China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, and decisions where mistakes can get. It can get human beings killed. And do you remember what happened at this school for those girls in Iran and in other school?

And this is precisely why we should all be concerned about this man. There are American service members whose lives depend every single day, every single minute, every single second on his judgment. It's not so much about how much how many weights he can lift, how much he is, how strong he thinks he is, how overly confident he is. It's not about that. It's about having good judgment and discernment and good leadership capabilities, which he by every measure and every fact and all the evidence does not have. And after everything that has happened, Washington has to answer the question that it should have answered before Pete Hicksett ever got the keys to the Pentagon.

I was going to say got the keys to the Pentagon tank, but it's a bit corny, but we'll go with that. Was his resume actually sufficient for the enormous responsibility they handed him? And his apart that I find fascinating about Pete Hicksett, this man hates, hates, hates DEI, this whole administration hates DEI. He has spent time at the Pentagon telling us everything should be about one thing and that's merit. No quotas, no identity politics, no checking boxes. Hicksett says that the military should put the most qualified individuals in positions of responsibility. That is his standard. Okay, Pete. So I want to use your standard here because if we're going to have a let's have a national conversation if you want to have one about people supposedly getting jobs that they aren't qualified for, I wish we could have that national conversation. Maybe we should all like to do a town hall, right? That is done by something other than a right wing partisan hack, either independent person or network.

We have this conversation. Can we talk about how you got yours? Let's watch this. Okay, I'm just saying. Come on, Pete Hicksett. Come on, Trump folks. Stop pretending that you care about meritocracy. Stop protecting people who are unqualified for their positions. And perhaps some of the Republicans if they want things to change, if they actually realize that what their constituents are saying about the war in Iran, that Pete Hicksett signed off on the one that's three plates guy, I got to add one more to each side to get the eight articles impeachment. You know, God, that's so embarrassing. Wow. Let's come here. Let's come back it up, Andy. Let's back it up to the beginning. I want to hear the.

I don't even know what to say. I don't even know what to say. Can we show Lloyd Austin, please? Do we have some Lloyd Austin in here? Look at that. Look at that man. That's a man versus a boy. A word from our sponsors. This episode of sponsored by Better Health, if I could get better at one thing, I think it would be turning work off when the work day is actually over. I spend all day reading, talking, thinking, reacting, and then the cameras go off and my brain doesn't always get the memo. I'm still thinking about the show tomorrow, something somebody said something I need to fix and on and on. And I know a lot of people live like that. Don't tell me you don't sometimes getting better is learning how to give your mind somewhere else to go better is a feeling and it's defined by you.

And for Better Health, it is a Better Health therapist who really gets you. It is a focus on global emotional well being with thousands of therapists and millions of members in over 100 countries. It's progress. So for me, better would be being more present when the work is done. Sign up and get 10% off at BetterHealth.com slash Don Lemon. That's better HELP.com slash Don Lemon. And thank you to our sponsors. They do keep us powered here. I just wonder when we are, when are we ever going to get to the point where we're talking about what's real or what's not real? When are we ever going to get to that to that point? When are we going to get back to a point of reality where we actually have some qualified people in charge in this country? Like people who really know what they're doing instead of like Donald Trump always blaming the administration before him always blaming a Democrat. Everything is about Joe Biden. Everything is about Barack Obama or Kamala Harris.

Like every failure, every single misstep that they make like they did when they came into office, they blame it on. They try to blame it on either Joe Biden or the black man. And maybe that's the same because Joe Biden was Donald Trump. Joe Biden was Barack Obama's vice president. But that's right. Yes. Thank you very much for that. Auntie. I said what I said. 100%. 100%. Now, I want you guys in the comments. Let me know if you think perhaps Andy, I don't know if we should, if we should open up the phone lines. I don't know. But I think people would want to talk about this next door because it's a very, very, very difficult subject. We'll think about it. Let you guys let me know in the chat how you feel about it, meaning our personal chat or in the chat here. If we should open up the phone lines because I want to talk about you guys heard what was happening. Oh, before we get to that, okay, fine. This is a thing that I want to talk to that we had that I discussed. Sorry to go back on you. But I wanted to make sure that we saw this just to give you the evidence. I said I like to give you proof. I like to give you facts. I like to give you evidence about the bullshittery or whatever it is. And I'm talking about.

So I talked about Pete Hegseth. Remember the Pentagon. He thought he was reciting some verse that was straight from the Bible and then set a men after it. Here it is. So the prayer is Cesar 2517 and it reads and pray with me, please. The path of the down to aviator is beset on all sides. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of camaraderie and duty shepherd the lost through the valley of darkness. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will separates the weak through the valley of darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. Well, he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of law. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger, those who attempt to capture and destroy my brother.

And you will know my call sign is sandy one when I name my vengeance upon me. And it's almost it's almost too farcical sometimes to even point out it's it's I don't know. I don't know sometimes how to react to it. I had to point that out because if anyone should be in peace, it should be all of them, right? And I'm going to be in peace because we really do want our country back to some normalcy, some semblance of a democracy rather than this artocracy or fascist state that we're in right now. So I don't know if you talk about let's move on. P.T.H. said I said a man, Joloid Austin versus a boy, P.T.H. said that's what it is. So don't give me that bullshit about meritocracy and about diversity, equity, inclusion when you shouldn't even be in the same conversation with someone like Lloyd Austin at all period.

P.E.R.I.O.D.T. all capital letters with a period and then an exclamation point behind it. Okay. So this story I want you guys to weigh in on perhaps we should take phone calls you let me know if you think do we do open up the phone lines and then let me know but let me talk about this Ed Sheeran tour. Have you guys been paying attention to this? From what I understand that he wanted a peaceful eight political tour for his thousands of fans singing love songs, waving cell phone lights pretending that their ex is still watching their Instagram stories. Now look, no shade to Ed Sheeran. I'm sure a nice enough guy that means I don't really he's not really on my playlist. Like I don't know. I mean I'm sure if I heard a song I'd probably recognize it but I wouldn't necessarily know that it's Ed Sheeran. It's just not me. So instead now Maclamore who I know but quite honestly if you want to know the truth I love Maclamore. I love he's always stood up for like justice and equal rights and equity and diversity, equity, inclusion, all of that.

But I haven't thought about Maclamore. Be honest guys. Have you thought about Maclamore in years? Right? Instead Maclamore said free Palestine. Yep. Here it is. I've been trying to figure out a way to say this all day. One of the reasons why I wanted to come on this tour was because I wanted to stand up here on stages and stadiums across America and say two words that are very near and dear to my heart. Free Palestine. I said free Palestine. I want those words to be loud and clear so that people from Gaza all the way to the occupied West Bank know that we have not forgotten them. And this next song was inspired by the bravery of Columbia University students who led an encampment movement that mobilized the entire world open up hearts myself included.

Thank you to those students that risk their diplomas that risk their tuition that risk their scholarships that stood up and said no. C U A D students students for justice and Palestine and Jewish voices for peace. Thank you guys to all of my Jewish brothers and sisters. Criticism of Israel. Criticism of apartheid being against genocide in no way is a criticism of you. My message is for peace, love for all human beings to be treated with dignity, respect, and equality. So I say free Palestine. I say free Lebanon. I say free Cuba. I say free Congo. Free Sudan. Free all people in America living in fear over this terrorist organization ice. None of us will be free until we are all free. This song is called Hens Hall.

Okay. Now, I mean this is more we said that you know it's here and after the Maclamore ouster but I think it's more like basically they're basically what they're calling him. I want to say this they're saying that that Maclamore is an anti-Semite. Now you heard him that he was espousing anti-Semitic views. Now I did not hear any anti-Semitism here. I just didn't. And so this is a very difficult conversation because as I said if you say anything about Gaza and any support for people who are being bombed or killed indiscriminately and children are dying that somehow that's deemed as anti-Semitism and that's not necessarily so. You know, you know, you know, you're like a trap. That's when people say well how about this and you say because God said and the Bible says you said but wait a minute. The Bible is not law. The Bible's parables and mythology.

It's allegory. It's not a book of laws and Americans criticize their own government and they criticize people who are religious leaders. That's what the first amendment is about and they're not called because because we can criticize our own government that makes us even more American and more patriotic because we are acting within the bounds and the means of our Constitution. And so every criticism of Israel or the Israeli government I do not see it as anti-Semitic or anti-Semitism. And for those who are espousing that that is an ideological trap. And believe me, I am there is not an anti-Semitic bone in my body. Look, I'm not going to say I have Jewish friends. I mean, that's not the look. I could have converted at one point because of the person who was in my life.

There's nothing to do with that. I was part of a black Jewish alliance. So this is not that. But sometimes your friends people and if you read the newsletter this morning you will understand what I'm saying. I'm sorry I'm veering off a little bit. I have a great guest that's going to come on to talk about this. But I want you to read the lucky limits of a newsletter, the preamble this morning or the first story this morning because I talk about that. And what I did not state I don't believe strong enough is that people are used to their enemies criticizing them. They're used to the right being anti-Semitic perhaps that it somehow baked into the cake that the right is anti-Semitic. So you don't call them out. You have neo-Nazis running around here saying Jews will not replace us and blood and soil and spouting the most anti-Semitic shit that you ever want to hear. Also committing crimes against Jewish people atrocities domestic tear all of that mainly right wingers.

But then when your friends the people who usually support you which is the left when they try to say hey listen in this moment there may be something that you need to pay attention to. Instead of pushing people out you need to draw them in all of a sudden you don't want to hear that message and let the folks in and so what do you do. You attack the person who may be trying to hold a mirror up to you whether you think it is fair or not. And I believe in many ways that's where we are right now. Wait a minute you guys usually support us on every single thing but maybe on this issue it's gone too far. I know I know I'm going there and look they might try to cancel me but I'm just saying that is where we are right now. And I think that's what Maclamore was saying on that stage I'm not criticizing Jewish people at all. I'm espousing peace. So after that moment the city of motors reportedly through a fit promoters dropped him and for other artists walked out in protest.

Now I need to say also too. I've known Bob Krat for a long time and you know how I got to know Bob Krat. Number what we that sort of mutual friends but that came afterwards when I met him. I reached out to Bob Krat I did everything in my power because I well yeah when we had mutual friends I knew that we had mutual friends or I knew people who were in high positions who knew Bob Krat who could get me to him. And so during true story hand to God the Colin Kaepernick thing and he will tell you if he would ever come on the show. During the Colin Kaepernick thing I met with Colin Kaepernick we sat and we talked to each other in a hotel lobby like restaurant bar and we talked to me talked to me talk to me talk. And after I spoke with Colin Kaepernick I said you know I'm going to reach out to Bob Krat and I called Bob Krat. I said I need to get to Bob Krat and he's going to get to Bob Krat. And I'm walking to the subway the phone rings it's raining after I had left Colin Kaepernick. Hey Don Bob Krat and I'm like okay and then I told him I was like look you guys need to sit down and talk right because of the whole football thing.

So I know Bob Krat and if I saw him in person if he would pick up the phone he might I'll call him. I'm sure he would talk to me about this but I don't know if his ears would be open to my feedback on what should happen. I'm going far here because I'm giving you some personal stuff here okay. So Ed Sheeran is opening lineup has as fewer people than a group chat really after somebody brings up Gaza. But this is the uncomfortable question that what exactly is free speech worth. If speaking freely gets you professionally punished if a group of people who are in power and have control if they try to silence you for free speech. Artists have been spouting off about free speech anti-war all forever rock stars everybody has been doing it. Who's the guy that what's his name if I could change the Bob Clapton Eric Clapton remember Eric Clapton went off into like a racist tirade and people still reverend like and love his music.

So artists are wacky nobody is saying a venue has to endorse Maclamore's politics nobody is forcing Ed Sheeran to agree with him but disagreement is not danger and political speech should not automatically become grounds for being canceled. Sheeran has been trying to defend himself amidst this fall out and look he says I'm not complicit I have my personal views on the status stating conflict just because I choose not to speak publicly it doesn't mean I don't have them and it doesn't mean I don't care. My thing would be then what good is having a platform Ed Sheeran I'm not saying you have to you don't it's your right to do whatever it is that you want. But if you happen to have a platform where you can help in this matter then perhaps you should use it. That's that's just me. And I'm entitled to my opinion as well now Maclamore has claimed that Sheeran told him that I don't take sides. Representative AOC was asked about this is by TMZ and now she is no longer going to listen to Ed Sheeran's music here it is.

Hey if Ed Sheeran comes on the radio while you're driving along are you changing the channels. I am. You are? Yeah. Why is that? I think that what we've seen especially it's not just what has happened with the act and not just in removing Maclamore from the lineup but when you see what Robert crafted to line up all of the stadiums to censor speech in that one specific way. It's become clear that this is not just about one music artist or two music artists but this is about how just a handful of stadium owners and the elite can prevent an entire massive issue in this case the genocide and Gaza but it doesn't stop there. It could be speaking out about AI it could be speaking out about any issue that you can now just get a handful of stadium owners to ensure that an entire person's career can be jeopardized if they speak out about any issue.

This is because if the performance are only free to speak when their opinions are comfortable profitable and approved by people who own the building that's not free expression. We've got to stop trying to drown people out simply because their words make us uncomfortable you can disagree with Maclamore you can criticize him you can challenge every syllable that leaves his mouth that is how free speech works but immediately removing somebody for expressing a political view that doesn't in the conversation. I think what they've done is a given Maclamore more power and a bigger voice I mean I think it makes a controversy bigger turns a performer into the story and then it drags everybody else into it. And then that's sure and is the one that's left holding the bag now because if he stays silence people accuse him of cowardice if he supports Maclamore near risks angering venues and fans and if he backs a decision to remove him then he looks like the friendly face of corporate censorship so it's an impossible position for the artist to be here and by the way it was completely avoidable let the artist speak let the audience react.

But unless it is something that is overtly anti-Semitic or racist I get it but this doesn't from what I've seen on the stage was and I don't know they said that there was other symbolism whenever that they were uncomfortable with okay we're uncomfortable this is America. The thing is that this is America that that people say look the reason that we support Israel so much is because and they are sort of an oasis in the desert this is with the comparison that they're the only democracy in the area so we must support them so democracies believe in freedom of speech and rights. So let disagreement happen without treating every concert stage like a hostage negotiation because when we punish speech instead of answering it nobody learns anything we're just going to create martyrs and walkouts and public relations disasters and all the things. So let's bring in someone who knows about that Jeremy Tunis is here a PR crisis expert and thank you so much for joining us sorry for such a long wind up to you but this one is this one is really difficult to talk about but I think it's Jeremy it's really important are you there can you hear me.

I'm here now how are you. Great so what say you on this do you think that your perspective was removing Maclamore a big mistake. I would say let's your your all about transparency and this is one of those hard ones a little bit for me because I'm a proud Jew Jewish communal leader I've been to Israel many times I feel a kinship country but I'm also in my day job a crisis communications and public affairs advisor to companies and associations and nonprofits and hoping for a lot of things. So I think that's why I'm still with these type of reputation issues so what what I'll say here is I don't think there are any real clear winners or clear losers and I think I can explain a little bit more why I think this but I think when you look at this through a crisis management lens a lot of the principles here got you know a little bit of what they wanted they had some victory and they also took some losses and I think.

Reasonable people can disagree I think we saw that here about what they consider the line between you know political activism political speech criticism of an individual country that to others beers into selective outrage anti-semitism in sensitivity understanding why people come to concerts and why they don't. Who comes to Ed Sheeran concerts and why they're there so I think with with Maclamore what they'll just point out and I'd love to chat a little bit more is he does not have completely clean hands here either there was an incident as you probably remember back I think in 2014 or 2015 where it be performed in Jewish faith several songs that I think are going to be a little bit more. We have to you know number of different Jewish advocacy groups anti-deformation league in particular heavily criticized him there was there was other comments so I think Maclamore obviously lost you know the tour Robert Kraft had an opportunity you know to exert you know his point of view he's been a big champion in many cases you know for anti-semitism.

For anti-semitism prevention and I think if people will have to decide you know what he decided here in terms of did he have discussions with other venues that they decide this on their own if they feel like Ed Sheeran's audience was with they were hearing from a lot of them that they were upset right I think we'll have to think about that I think the public statements and then I'll let you ask any questions I think the public statements from both Robert Kraft from Maclamore. From Ed Sheeran and to slightly lesser extent the promoter did what they needed to do they expressed their opinion they tried to not blow up all their relationships leave room for some dialogue but ultimately I don't think depending on which you know side individuals on their perspective in this how they view terms like genocide and apartheid and you know settler colonialism or you know a lot of these loaded words you know the UN's role in this right I think that's going to drive people's viewpoints on this one way or the other.

Okay thank you for that and I'm listening right the best part about being I think a good communicator listens right more than he talks now I will say to you what people in the comments section said one thing is like you didn't answer the question my question was was it a mistake for them to do it perhaps have they given him a louder voice and for me this is more about free speech which actually you know when we talk about the first of the time. I mean it applies to government institutions but we know in the vernacular now people can free speech you know that being able to say what you want to say in public but. This podcast is supported by your Southern California key dealers around Southern California it's easy to spend plenty of time behind the wheel whether you're commuting from OCE or heading to Santa Barbara for the weekend going farther between fuel stops is something everyone can appreciate that's exactly what he is hybrid lineup is built for. Kia offers five hybrid models that combine turbo charged power with hybrid efficiency with some delivering more than 600 miles of driving range on a single tank one model that really stands out is the all new 2027 Kia tell you ride hybrid it offers seating for up to seven passengers the confidence and capability of a three row SUV into turbo charged hybrid powertrain that delivers impressive efficiency for fewer stops at the gas station it's ready for weekday errands we.

We can get a ways and everything in between if a hybrid fits the way you drive Kia has a model designed to fit your needs learn more at Kia dot com or visit your Southern California Kia dealer was it a mistake you think is that the right thing to do and I'll tell you why I'm asking that question after. I think the answer is it depends on who you talk to I think for Robert craft I think given his brand I think given his long time activism I think for him it probably was the right decision I'm not saying it's a decision without consequences he's taking a lot of heat and I think it all so it all. So it also done brings up other you know related issues is there hypocrisy involved perhaps as you know Kanye West is due to perform at AT&T Stadium in November we know well Kanye West has a long and unfortunate you know history of making anti submitted remarks he has a song you know

and maybe after Hitler people can interpret what that song means or not but you know there is some picking and choosing here I think Robert craft and others who decided you know to express their viewpoints and make decisions about who was going to perform at their venues who wasn't they are entitled to criticism I think they're also entitled to let me just say so they're in use they're entitled to but that doesn't mean that they're not going to face the court of public opinion. Okay so let me let me get in here too because I I think just the opposite I think someone like Bob Kraft I forget what it is he has this thing this initiative called one or I forget exactly what his issues I have a pen somewhere upstairs and I think it's like the blue pen that's one yeah so I think for someone like Bob Kraft who has such power and where he can control who goes to the venues or not it sounds to me like Maclamore rather than one of those people that I mentioned that are out there saying Jews will not replace us and who are actually committing acts of terrorism and harming and killing Jewish people and right in America right okay I think that Maclamore is one of the people that you can actually talk to

and can help bring some understanding to this division that we have in our country right now especially with how people feel about what's happening in Gaza what has happened over the last couple of years if you look at public sentiment and public support support for Israel meaning the Israel Israeli government not necessarily Jewish people and but you know that's there's an issue there as well that it's bleeding over into that that perhaps if Robert Kraft is really all about building bridges it looks like it has been presented to him on a silver platter and he's doing exactly the opposite of what he says he's all about because Maclamore said that on that stage like I'm not steeped into what Maclamore said and what the I don't understand anti-Semitism I don't understand bigotry of anything is just not part of my nature but it seems like it Maclamore stood in that station said I want peace I don't want people to die those are human that's that's being a decent human being I didn't hear him say

anything negative about Israel and in our in our descent among things how we feel politically or whatever no one is perfect in their presentation not even Bob Kraft is perfect in his presentation of how what he fights for with Jewish people in his companies what happened with Colin Kaepernick you know controversies that he's been involved in he's not perfect either so he's expecting an artist an entertainer who's out there part of the reason that that people like him is because he speaks his mind is because he speaks about issues that that have to do with human rights and it looks like Bob Kraft is doing the exact opposite of what he claims to be or want so if I were answering my own question I would say yes it was a big mistake for him to drop Ed Sheeran I mean to drop Maclamore he gave Maclamore a bigger microphone and if he wanted to correct this he would draw people in and not out and he would bring Maclamore back after the two

talked or they talked with a group and decided how to move forward from this point now I'm not an expert in this but that's how I feel yeah and I think it's a totally reasonable feeling I do I would say I think that there are reasonable people who while showing empathy for the plight of Palestinian civilians involved injured killed during the conflict I think there are you know many many people who the use of the term genocide of apartheid these themselves are controversial terms when you know placed upon Israel and

focused only on Israel while ignoring what many would consider actual genocide occurring around the world right and I think that goes into what we've seen well beyond this right when does it and I can't draw a perfect line I don't think you're protecting too I when does criticism you know of a particular government administration fear into ancient tropes about or selective outrage or a lot of other you know I would say but Jeremy but Jeremy if you try to squelch that you can't squelch that you're going to have those things and when you know the term genocide offends a lot of Jewish people I understand that but according to several international

organizations it let's be honest I'm just going to it says several international independent groups have stated that the scale of destruction and civilian suffering meets the legal definition of genocide one can't be offended by facts facts or facts and people are offended by genocide the the consensus from most people would be then don't veer into an atrocity or something that looks or appears to be genocidal yeah I think that there are organizations some I think some would criticize those organizations own records of classifications one thing I do but why criticize it why criticize it why not have the conversation if it's why not why not have that conversation about so it sounds like it sounds like from what Ed Sheeran had and again you know neither of us were sort of in the proverbial room so it's being it does sound like from what Ed Sheeran said that he attempted in vain to broker you know a meeting of the minds a conversation between

you know Mr. Krabs some of these other advocacy organizations and and Maclamore and that he was you know unable unable to do so I do think where we where we definitely agree here is I think Maclamore achieved you know one of the goals that he set out which was to draw attention you know to an issue of importance to him now I think separately we can decide if if Maclamore is an opening act for Ed Sheeran I mean generally speaking what we buy tickets to concerts many of us are going primarily for the the showcaser right the principal performer right we're going you know we generally know about that person you know their songs in some cases their political viewpoint right so we kind of know that right and I think that also is a unique aspect of this that that

that Maclamore I think in the eyes of some became the story as the opening act and that then you know became controversial to some whether it should be a lot I think you know and therefore for Jeremy want you to hear me out yeah I don't know if you're listening to me I have Maclamore you said became the story yes nobody's talking about this before Maclamore what Maclamore said in a few stadiums in nobody no Maclamore was not on my bingo card but since this has happened this is now everywhere it's the stri-sand effect I'm not saying that they should have left it alone I'm just saying there's a better way of handling it because now people are really listening and you created a bigger divide among people about what's happening again it's in I have the stats I wrote about it in my newsletter the public opinion of Israel in the Israeli government is at an all time low

is people who support Israel need to pay attention to that whether they believe it is fair or not that is a problem and that perhaps truly can contribute to more anti-semitism which is what people are trying which is what they say they're trying to fight against so it's not just stamping it out and getting people to shut up perhaps I keep saying it's about bringing people in it's about having a conversation understanding that sometimes your friends are going to criticize you and hold up a mirror to you and you may not like it it happens to me on an individual basis all the time but you know what I sit back I think about it I take the heat I take the correction and the criticism and I move on I don't push people out and say you're not my friend because you don't agree with me I'm getting you from my show you're never coming back okay what is it about that you don't that okay all right I got you I feel you many times black women have told me done it was what they're telling Steven a Smith now watch your tone we don't like the way you're talking about us there are some things that you may be blind to that you can't see because you're too close to it and I think that's what people are trying to say now and many people in the Jewish community don't want to hear it they have a blind spot when it comes to that and that's not discounting what happened

on October 7th it's not accounting that's not discounting that's not discounting anti-semitism are the atrocities that Jewish people have faced in this particular moment there is an issue that people want to discuss and they want people like Bob Kraft and Jewish leaders to understand and hear them and listen to them and that is not happening instead of doing that what this is done it seems like they are suppressing free speech okay so look I got to run because I'm being told by the producers we got to run but I'll get last work I think let's stay tuned to see how this plays out I think we will as as communicators as people who counsel others we're always looking at the second and third order of that so I think this is something you know we can stay and touch on what happens over the coming weeks artists may have different viewpoints coming up on this issue another you know controversial ones like you know talking about AI we're talking about about you know Jeremy this isn't going away no and so this is not this one is not going away this is going to go into November of 2026 and all the way to 2028 and the more people don't listen the louder and stronger the voices of opposition that you may people may consider opposition like Macklemore the louder and stronger they're going to become and they're going to become get more animated as we get closer to the voting booth

let's say we got going to the US we got voting with Benjamin Netanyahu yes amen thank you very much Jeremy Tunis we appreciate that we're opening up the phone lines we want to hear from you first of where from our sponsors we've been a lot of time on the show talking about numbers we talk about bold numbers we talk about prices interest rates everybody is a number that they want you to pay attention to but there's one number that actually belongs to you and that is your blood pressure the tricky part is high blood pressure often doesn't make you feel any different you can feel perfectly fine and still not know your numbers that's why I like the idea behind 120 life they want you to actually measure so try their 14 day experiment check your blood pressure drink 120 life once a day keep checking and see what happens don't guess measure go to 120 life dot com that's 120 LIFE dot com and use my code on for 20% off you can try it risk free for two weeks if your blood pressure doesn't come down you get a full refund the statements have not been approved by the food and drug administration this product is not intended to diagnose treat or cure or prevent any disease always check with your doctor

all right thank you to our sponsors they keep us power when we're having intense conversation but need has been waiting for ever from Jacksonville Florida and she is a lemon head and a regular good morning how are you what what say you I'm how you doing don't I can hear you clear I'm calling because this whole matter with a Macklemore I think a lot of people are kind of missing the point he from what I could tell he was just bringing up the fact that palestine and not only palestine that there's a lot of genocide around the world because he did mention I think Sudan and some other countries and the fact that he did it the one time on a concert maybe he should not have but I believe there was an over correction by Robert Kraft and Ed Sharon I believe that they should have just maybe pulled him inside and said hey this is not the place of the time and just let it go but because they didn't

and they decide to punish him they've made it a bigger issue and not only did he allow but also some people who work with Sharon who are from Ireland a lot of the Irish musicians who open for him also quit so now I don't need to know if he's going to be able to have a tour and let's adjust himself at this point yeah this is not over yet there's still a moment here they still have time to correct it or to change course here we'll see what happens Benita thank you very much I want to get some other folks and we appreciate it we'll see you soon Jasmine Felix Jasmine good morning hi Don how are you well thank you can you okay perfect so if you listen if you follow maplamore he's been very vocal about Gaza Sudan and Congo for the last three years maybe the reason why he hasn't popped up on your algorithm is because of how much they silence him on the socials because of how vocal he already is so there's just no way he got on the tour with Ed Sharon and Ed Sharon didn't know how

maplamore felt he's been super super vocal from the beginning so since you already know that it's going to magnify him and he's going to take it and go in the right direction I don't know why we're focusing on Ed Sharon we have celebrities right here that say nothing Beyonce Jay Z nothing and they don't say anything on Gaza they say nothing on our issues here so if we're going to look at Ed Sharon then why can't we look at our own celebrities here who also have big platform and use it to say nothing is violence is complicit I think that that's going to open up the conversation you're going to hear a lot more people talking about it this way I told the crisis PR guy there this is an over people are going to take this energy into the voting booth and moving forward and this not this this won't be good for people who are supporters of Israel I'm just saying thank you very much for that we appreciate you calling in Don let's see Don is on the line wants to weigh in on maplamore hi Don is on how are you great good okay so just real quick I remember so from my opinion what I saw that one more didn't say anything that was anti-Semitic I hate people just take every time somebody says something or criticizes Israel or BVN and Yahoo it becomes anti-Semitic that's not what it is it's just strictly a criticism the other thing I will say is that I remember

probably in April of last year my son said to me mine is a genocide and I was like no it's not I just felt like Israel was defending themselves at first because October 7 was horrible children were decampated yes but there was also things that were happening prior to October 7 so we can't you know just excuse Israel for October 7 if you will yes there would there should be a reaction to it absolutely however there were always things going on prior to that but then when I saw the Israel government and they were able to get specific beapers and paiders and and and kill the people that they wanted to kill that way or they were able to pinpoint a specific house somebody that they wanted to kill in there that made it quite clear to me that you have the capabilities to kill with precision versus just blowing everybody up and tearing everything down and it was making more of a statement that you just wanted to get rid of the population there versus trying to exact revenge if you will

so that's just my statement I don't I don't I don't agree with it and then I think the other thing that the younger the younger folks are also upset about when they realize that we are funding a lot of Israel so like Israel rolls around because they they know they have a bigger brother if you will in United States is always want to take up for them and so they are becoming like bullies to other people like they are just BB and Yang who was just running a muck and you know we are funding them but they have free health care and free college education so I'm just saying we're doing some things wrong and that's all I have to say now so you have a great rest of your day you do too Dawn I love it that we can have these conversations here and I love hearing from you guys thank you so much for joining us and thank you for your support snap is on from Jacksonville Florida good morning snap and yes I can hear you you must know I always agree in and again thank you for spotlighting topic I wanted to ultimately respond to the young and the gentleman that you had on

the journey I feel the way that you answered your question is a big part of the problem that we have is a society because people are trading too light and instead of just speaking as true organic truth they don't do that they're speaking politically correct and that's a big part of the problem with that also being stated that takes me back to craft and this is why people that are in these high places feel that they can censor and basically oppress us as a people because no one is really taking the truth stand and what I mean by that is in such a way to fight this and I'm so passionate about this we as a society we still embrace these people because as soon as that happened and we tried to oppress our brothers that were on that platform and as Sharon didn't speak up and I understand he took a very neutral diplomatic for lack of better time to your craft position everyone should now be saying we're not going to any say we're not going to put ball game we're not doing any of that and so they learn to let us be free in this country to let us have our image right our amendment right and that starts with free speech if it's not for us small people per say none of these all of ours none of these high people that have places literally would be in the position that they are so they didn't get to those positions I be in sense that

I'm sure that they were they were uh-oh do we lose her she's still on the line but I don't know what happened but we lost her my on my head said I'm sorry my head said when my head said when you my head said when you but that was all I wanted to say that was literally all I wanted to say was that we need to take a stance and we have got to start saying up and saying first I know we enjoy our football our basketball I enjoy it I was a high school college back ball player but we have got to shape a sense and when we stand up they'll sit down that's all snap thank you and I'll see you on the legend thing to maro thank you so much um liana from texas hey good morning um so my comment here is um I'm tired that they've normalized labeling um speaking out against Israel as anti-traumatic um what we need to start doing is normalizing that when we speak out against

the atrocities we need to start normalizing that that's not anti-traumatic so anytime someone takes actions against that for example craft taking the action of you know canceling the shows or pulling macamore from it now we're normalizing that anytime you speak out against it it's anti-traumatic when it is not so that had macamore said something against women or had said something about black people for example let's say he said Michelle Obama was a man I guarantee that craft would not have pulled him from the lineup he would not have canceled him we would not be we were just in a blip on the news we would not be having this conversation so why is it that we take these harsh actions against um what we may consider what what people label as anti-traumatic uh rhetoric when it is not but other other hateful language or rhetoric is excuse it's annoying and we need to start normalizing

that speaking against the atrocities there being um done to Palestinians that that's we need to start normalizing to speak out against that it is not to speak out against uh Israel is not being anti-traumatic but anytime people take harsh actions against that against free speech we are saying we're normalizing that speaking against it is anti-traumatic when it is not that's all thank you thank you lovianna I appreciate that look guys make sure you hit the like in the thumbs up if you are liking this conversation and you want to hear more honest conversations like this hit the thumbs up and spread the word about what we do here on the Don Limitchills Cecilia is on the line Cecilia good morning to you good morning uh don i wanted to speak about uh uh pete xseth uh he needs to go i did airlift for four star general when uh i was in the military and this type of behavior is that of an airman who is learning how to become a civilized person

in our society this behavior is totally ridiculous it makes me feel ashamed that i was ever in the military sometimes and i really feel for our men and women who have to serve today and their arms their their arms hands feet everything's tied because they cannot say anything and if they do then it's a court and martial it's like that major there was only steps to the capital you know you can't say anything and yet everybody knows that he was right this is ridiculous this man needs to go and this sooner we get rid of this atrocity that is over there at the Pentagon the better often united states will be in need to go companies to go all of them just need to go go somewhere sit down hey get a t-do's in general and you ain't except because we know that's what you want to do and and and and and be gone and i hate to say this like a fart in the wind be gone thank you thank me feel
