It was on this day, April 7, 1961, the old faithful Sioux Falls pumper fire engine is retired and given to the dentist the menace children's theme park in town. An old jet from the South Dakota Air National Guard would also be added to the exhibit about a month later and a tank would fill it out a short time after. The machines were made safe by 1960s standards and children were allowed to climb up and on and in them as they sat in the park for all to enjoy. I could only imagine being a young man sitting in a tank or a fighter jet. You'd feel like the coolest kid in the world. How awesome for all the kids who got to experience that in Sioux Falls.
