Mr. Watson, come here. I wanted to see you. Those were the first words ever transmitted over a telephone, spoken on this day 150 years ago by inventor Alexander Graham Bell to his assistant, Thomas Watson. At the time, Bell was a vocal physiology professor at Boston University. In his free time, he experimented with sound waves, eventually becoming convinced that it was possible

1:06to transmit speech over a telegraph-like system. Watson, a mechanic, helped him turn his ideas into reality. Surprising fact, Bell's father was a leading authority on public speaking and speech correction. And earlier in his career, Bell founded a school in Boston to train teachers of deaf students. Also on this day in history, in 1864, Ulysses S. Grant was promoted to Lieutenant General of the U.S. Army, leading all union troops during the Civil War. In 1922, Mohandisc Gandhi was arrested for sedition. And in 1994, singer Bad Bunny was born. That's all for today.
