The Most Expensive Business Habit: Taking Too Long to Decide
In Growth Notes, Frazier explains that one of the most expensive business habits is taking too long to decide, emphasizing that speed matters and prolonged thinking stalls progress. He notes that indecision leads to missed opportunities and stalled relationships because markets and time don’t stop, and someone else will take the spot while you hesitate. Since most business decisions can’t be made with perfect information, Frazier urges making the best decision possible with what you know today, then moving and adjusting based on feedback and data gained from action. He warns that delaying spreads into other areas, slowing the entire business, and that people underestimate the risk of doing nothing. He advises choosing a pending change, identifying what information is truly needed, setting deadlines and constraints, deciding, learning, and continuing to move.

Growth Notes — This Can Cost You More Than an Imperfect Decision | Ep. 628. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
My friend, I'm going to talk about one of the most expensive habits you can have in your business. And it's probably one that you don't really think about. Well, actually, the problem is you probably think about it, you probably think about it too much and that actually is the issue. But we're going to get into it. But first, good morning. Happy Friday. Hope you guys had a great week. Hope it was a productive week. Hope you're winning your week. I hope you're putting the pedal to the metal because that is what is required right now. All right, my friends. So this is the most expensive habit, right? And that is taking too long to decide. Speed absolutely matters right now. It matters to everyone. And so you can't sit there for six months thinking about stuff. And I see this all the time. Should I start making videos? When should I call this agent? When should I scale? When should I hire someone? Should I change this tool? Should I change that tool? Launch the campaign? I'm in a Facebook group. Should I lock this loan? Right? Pick it. Pick all the things that people think about and ponder about. And so what happens?
Nothing, right? Just a lot of thinking and some more thinking. And then you're asking more people than you're watching video, right? It just doesn't end. And during that time, nothing moves. And that delay absolutely has a cost, especially if you're dealing with opportunities, right? And relationships. Someone gets your spot because they showed up while you were thinking. Relationships you're trying to build. They lose momentum. These they get cold. And then sometimes they just disappear because time doesn't stop. The market doesn't stop. And you're waiting for perfect decisions when most business decisions, my friends, they don't come with perfect information. So how the world can you expect to make a perfect decision? You just have to make the best decision. You know what you can with what you know today. And then you move. Are you going to get some of them wrong? Absolutely. Of course. Right? And I have. You will too. But my friends, when you make a imperfect decision, it actually gives you something of value.
It gives you feedback. It gives you data, right? It gives you information. And so the one thing that indecision won't give you is it won't give you any of that. Okay? It won't let you know that a process is bad or that you could save time doing this. And when you start delaying and delaying and delaying, it spreads to other areas, right? And you start hesitating on this thing, that thing and the other thing. And then everything in your business starts moving slower and people are waiting on you. And what you're doing is you're weighing risk and I get it. It's human. But here's the thing. Every decision has risk. And so what happens? You do nothing. The problem with that is that we tend to dramatically underestimate the risk of doing nothing. And so I want you to think about something in your business that you've been sitting
on, whatever it happens to be. It's going to be something. But the thing about like maybe a change or a change that needs to happen of some kind. So what additional information do you really need? Not information to make you feel more comfortable or better. But what information do you generally need to change your decision or even make it? If the answer is not just make it. Give yourself a deadline. Give yourself constraints. Move. Then adjust based on what happens. You don't need to be right every single time. But you do need to be willing to decide, learn and keep moving. There's a business, my friends, that are going to have real challenges in this market are the ones that don't make decisions quick enough. Hope you guys have an amazing Friday and I will see you all tomorrow. Take care.
