Only Believers Preserve Wudu The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Know that… only a believer preserves Wudu.” [Ahmad] Preserving Wudu means to immediately make Wudu if it is broken, so that the person is almost continuously in a state of Wudu. When Sulaiman bin al-A’mash used to wake up at night to answer the call of nature and did not find water to perform Wudu, he would wipe his hand on the dusty wall and perform Tayammum, saying, “I fear that I might die while not in a state of Wudu.” Purity, cleanliness and maintenance of Wudu are the hallmarks of a believer
