On a lonely stretch of Route 54, the Great Cypress Swamp turns the Delaware–Maryland border into a wall of black water, twisted roots, and bad stories. In the 1960s, drivers began reporting something impossible in their headlights: a towering, fur-covered creature wielding a club with a railroad spike through the end. It screamed, it charged cars… and then it vanished back into the pines.
