The Power of Connection: Finding Supportive Communities as a Mother

As a mother, it can often feel like you are carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. From postpartum depression to raising neurodivergent children, the challenges can be overwhelming. But the good news is that you don't have to go through it alone. 

In this “Modern Mom Probs” podcast episode, Tara talks with two amazing women who have created strong supportive communities for mothers: Aubrey Grossen and Megan Champion. In this raw conversation, they emphasize the importance of finding a community and the power of connecting with others who understand your struggles. 

Aubrey shares her experience with postpartum depression and anxiety, which led her to create a group for moms to support each other. Megan shares her experience raising a neurodivergent child and feeling overwhelmed and isolated. She started the On the Hard Days podcast to share her story and connect with other moms raising neurodivergent kids. This led her to create Mothers Together, an online support community that matches moms with similar experiences to help them find their people. Both women also have strong communities on the Marco Polo video app. 

The conversation highlights the challenges that moms face in finding supportive communities. Megan points out the limitations of in-person support groups, which can be too formal, inconvenient, and infrequent for many moms. She emphasizes the importance of creating a space where moms can be vulnerable and share the real struggles of motherhood. Aubrey adds that it can be difficult for moms to prioritize self-care and seek out communities when they are already carrying a heavy mental load.
