About this episode
The Impact of Parents
It has been fun sharing these guest spots with my parents. They get to
see aspects of my life that schedules and distance have prevented and
it lets them see life from my perspective.
After sharing some of the spots, my dad, who was an auctioneer,
started reminiscing on how I would, as a child, take the PA system or
the tape recorder and babble. He has a story about me trying to
emulate the auctioneer cadence and he loves to regale listeners with
that tale. After hearing some of the recent spots, he again started
retelling the old stories.
I am sure that his encouragement contributed in no small way to my
time in radio back in the 80’s and even to these guest spots, but two
things really hit me as I listened to his time worn tales. Parents really
DO help define us even if we pursue paths very different from theirs.
The second thing was how proud I was to hear HIM expressing pride in
me. Little things we do for our kids can and do have lasting impact.
