The Missing Piece in Your Mindset Renewal Journey

And today we're going to take a closer look at that helper as we look at who the Holy Spirit is and how impactful his role is in our lives. So let's dive in. You can just drop me a note. I really love to hear from you. Who is the Holy Spirit? I don't think we as Christians talk enough about the Holy Spirit or teach about him properly. And I'm relearning who he is myself, what role he plays in my life, and how to apply what I'm learning to just the everyday situations I face. And I want to explore this topic more together with you. Because I found that the more I understand

2:07the Holy Spirit's role in my life, the more freedom that I'm experiencing in my mind, in my emotions, just in my whole life. And this is essential for renewing our minds and for breaking free from limiting beliefs. So I want to start with the Trinity, because we serve a triune God. It's God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It's all in one. And yet the Scriptures do give us some insight into the different functions that each has. It's not something we are ever going to really be able to wrap our minds around this side of heaven. It is a mystery that we just believe by faith. But I want us to take a look at what is revealed to us, because it really is important for our foundation. So we have God the Father, and he's our creator. He's the Lord Almighty, the beginning and the end. He describes himself as I am that I am a God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. And see, it was our relationship or mankind's relationship to God the Father that was broken

3:12in the Garden of Eden due to sin. And it's for the reconciliation to God the Father that Jesus came and sacrificed his life in our place to pay for our sins. It's by his blood that we are redeemed and brought back into that relationship. So we have Jesus who's God the Son. And again, fully God, part of the Trinity, but his role is as the Lamb of God, as the Redeemer of sinful man, as the resurrected King who's coming back. See, he chose to come to earth as a human in order to fulfill God's plan for our redemption. And we need to understand his coming to earth in human form is not his first appearance, not his first time on the scene. So Jesus is seen all throughout the Old Testament. In fact, Jesus is actually the Word of God itself. Again, it's part of this beautiful

4:19mystery. But I think the most mysterious, just in my own opinion, is the Holy Spirit, which is really today's focus. And we're going to go into even more detail next week. Again, fully God, fully part of the Trinity. And you see the Holy Spirit all throughout the Old Testament as well. But it's in the New Testament that the Holy Spirit is actually released to dwell within the followers of Christ. And it's to lead us to truth. Again, truth being Jesus. This is when he's invited. God's never going to force himself on someone. We've talked about this before. That is not love, that is not his character, but he waits for us. And it's the same with us needing to invite the Holy Spirit to dwell within us. We need to submit to his guidance just as when we became saved. We submitted our lives to Jesus. So we have God, the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, this three in one, just this awesome mystery. And I just want to kind of give a side note

5:21here that I don't want anyone to get caught up or hung up on, well, I pray to God, but maybe I should have prayed to Jesus or well, oh my gosh, I prayed to Jesus, but maybe I should have prayed to the Holy Spirit and we can kind of get ourselves confused. But that's a religious trap. And that's not necessary at all. God is never going to ignore your heart's cry. I just want to encourage you to embrace the mystery of our Almighty Triune God. And I want us to look at some verses. I want to start, well, let's start at the beginning at creation in Genesis 1. So we can see really God the Father, Son, and Spirit all working together right from the beginning in creation. So Genesis 1 verses 1 through 2 says in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and an empty waste. And darkness was upon the face of the very great deep. The spirit

6:21of God was moving, hovering over the face of the waters. So here is God the Father. We see the spirit hovering. You might be asking, okay, but I didn't hear about Jesus while he is also there. We find out about this in Colossians 116 where it says for it was in him referring to Jesus that all things were created in heaven and on earth, things seen and things unseen, whether thrones, dominions, rulers, or authorities, all things were created and exist through him and in him and for him. And if that doesn't convince you enough, go down a little bit further in Genesis 1, verse 26 where God said, let us, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, make mankind in our image after our likeness. So this plural is used, our image, our likeness. Now it is essential that we

7:25understand God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the fullness of who he is because this is going to be vital for renewing our minds according to truth and making decisions aligned with God's will for our lives. Now, let's get back to today's episode. Let's take a closer look at when Jesus first called his 12 disciples at the beginning of his three-year ministry. In Matthew 419, and this is Jesus speaking to the brother Simon, who's later named Peter and Andrew. They're common fishermen. They're tending to their boats. They're just living their lives as normal, and Jesus comes along, and he says, come after me as disciples. Letting me be your guide. Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. Let me be your guide. Other translations say teacher, or he says, I will teach you

9:27or show you, and this is really important to remember, because he's really giving insight into what is ahead. And in John 14, again, we see Jesus speaking to his disciples, but now we're at the end of the three years that they were all ministering together. And Jesus is preparing them for what's about to happen, his death and resurrection. And obviously, they're distraught. They're distraught that Jesus is leaving them. They're distraught that he has to die. They're distraught because they don't know what is going to happen, like what is going to happen to them afterwards. And basically, in this, Jesus is just assuring them, essentially, everything's going to be okay. So this is John 14, 23 to 26. And I know this is a lot of scripture, but it's really key for us to grasp so that we can walk in the fullness of what God has for us. And it says, Jesus answered, if a person loves me,

10:30he will keep my word and my father will love him and we will come and make our home with him. Anyone who does not love me does not observe and obey my teaching. And the teaching which you hear in heed is not mine, but it comes from the father who sent me. I have told you these things while I am still with you, but the comforter, counselor, helper, intercessor, advocate, strength, nurse, stand by the Holy Spirit, whom the father will send in my name, in my place to represent me and act on my behalf, he will teach you all things. And he will cause you to recall, will remind you of, bring to your remembrance everything I have told you. He will teach you all things. He will cause you to recall. He's going to remind you and bring to your remembrance everything I have told

11:32you. Remember, Jesus is first called to the disciples. Let me be your guide, your teacher. Well, how will Jesus fulfill this when in human form, he's no longer going to be physically present with them? Well, it's through the Holy Spirit. God's presence dwelling within the believer. And the Holy Spirit is available to all believers. I'm going to read you Acts 2.38, and Peter answered them, repent, change your views and purpose to accept the will of God in your inner selves instead of rejecting it and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of and release from your sins. And you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. You want to renew your mind? You need to allow the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit to aid you. It's to cause you to recall what Jesus, the word made flesh, the truth, has said.

12:32Taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, it's every thought captive to the Holy Spirit, allowing him to be your guide, your teacher, as Jesus first invited when he called you to follow him. The invitation was the same. Let me be your guide, and it's through the Holy Spirit. Now, the Holy Spirit has many different roles, and I'm going to go into detail next week, but for the sake of time, I don't want to get started today. Yet, when we submit ourselves to his leading, we're going to walk in greater freedom in our lives. And before I close today, I do want to share something very important that I've observed. And you know what, you can take it early, but the enemy has attempted, and he succeeded many times to distort our understanding of the Holy Spirit, so that we either, A, don't think he exists in modern day, or B, we're afraid of them, and we're standing off-ish because we've seen some off-the-wall behaviors done supposedly by

13:37the Spirit. I've experienced both. I've witnessed false teachings on the Holy Spirit. I've witnessed some abuses done in his name. However, I've also been blessed with spiritual mentors who have shown me the truth, the love, grace, and wisdom of the Holy Spirit, some hoping to pass some of that along to you. The Holy Spirit is not a magic genie in a bottle that we can just manipulate to get what we want. Nor is he some power source just kind of gone road thrashing people around at a win. Now, I'm not saying that people don't have extreme physical reactions at times when encountering the presence of Almighty God. They do, but it's not the norm or the standard you need to meet in order to experience the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit isn't putting on any shows. He doesn't act on his own accord. The Bible is really clear about that. He acts as the Father directs him,

14:42just as Jesus did when Jesus was here on earth. Jesus only did what the Father directed him to do. So the Holy Spirit will act in accordance to the Father's character and his word. The Holy Spirit is given to us for many reasons, primarily as our advocate, and the Greek word there is paracletos, which it's really this all-encompassing advocate helper, counselor, comforter, all the things that we just described in John 1426. But if you've experienced the Holy Spirit in any way, outside of how the Word of God has described him, first, I'm so sorry, and I am praying that God brings revelation, healing, and comfort to you even right now, because that was not the Holy Spirit, but a distortion of truth. The Holy Spirit will always, act in accordance to the Word of God and the character of God because He is God,

15:45meaning the Holy Spirit will act in compassion, grace, mercy, loving kindness, goodness, and yes, justice. But there's no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. That's Romans 8.1. And there's no condemnation or shame coming from the Holy Spirit. So I want to encourage you to spend time this week looking at scriptures about the Holy Spirit. I ask the Lord to give you wisdom and discernment about how you perceive the Holy Spirit in your own life and ask for healing if needed. Please reach out for support if this is difficult for you, because if we truly want freedom in our thoughts, emotions, and lives, we cannot do it apart from the indwelling presence and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
