On this week’s episode Jenny and Chris discuss the impact of social media on athletes and performance. As society is surrounded by social media and everyone has a platform for their opinion, teaching athletes to manage this new and powerful distractor is a big job for sport psychologists. Competitive anxiety is enough to manage without having to deal with some anonymous troll calling you fat or useless. People have become very mean behind their social media platforms. There is no accountability and, usually, no identity. What this does to the mind of the athlete can be distracting and damaging.
