Then Male whisk tapped one paw at a leaning stack on the bottom shelf. That one looks suspicious. Emily pulled the stack forward, and a little paper circle dropped onto the rug. It was the next clue, not the charm. On it was a drawing of a toy chest and another rhyme. Where brave things wait when games are done look beneath the sash and sun.

2:09Emily frowned, then looked across the room. Her toy chest had a painted yellow sun on the lid, and a red sash hung from one corner. The sash and the sun, she said, got it. Emily knelt by the toy chest and lifted the red sash. Under it she found a marble, two stickers, and one tiny toy spoon. Not a compass charm, she said. Male whisk held up the spoon. Still dramatic. Emily checked inside the chest too. There was a pirate coat, a paper crown, a striped scarf, and a plastic telescope. No charm. Then she spotted a strip of blue paper tucked into the lid seam. She unfolded it. Captains head and captains pride, with a secret tucked inside. Emily turned toward the dress-up corner. Her pirate hat hung from a wall hook. Black felt with a red band and feathery blue trim.

3:11Male whisk pointed, captain head. She lifted the hat down and checked the band first. Nothing. She checked under the brim. Still nothing. Maybe it fell out already. She whispered. Male whisk shook his head. Pirate clues a two-proud to stop halfway. Emily turned the hat inside out. There, hidden in the lining, was a tiny pocket. She slid two fingers inside, and felt something cool and round. Emily pulled out a small silver compass charm tied to a faded blue ribbon. We found it, she said. Male whisk put both paws to his chest. Helpful treasure. Emily tucked the compass charm into the envelope and hurried back to the porch with male whisk at her heels. The blue male box waited under the moonlight. Emily slipped the charm inside. The male box gave a warm hum and a misty picture floated up for one quick moment.

4:17Emily saw a child's hand clipping the charm onto a ribbon bracelet. Then the picture faded. So it got back to the right person, Emily said. Right on time, said male whisk. The hidden shelf inside the male box clicked open again. The silver star mark from the first night was still there, but now Emily saw something new under it. A tiny wavelength scratched into the wood, like part of a secret map sign. Another symbol? She whispered. Male whisk's whiskers twitched. The male box likes leaving pieces before the whole answer. Emily looked at him. Do you know who sends the letters? Male whisk adjusted his blue male back. I know the male box chooses good helpers. That is not really an answer. It is the one I have. Before Emily could ask more, the red male box flag rose all by itself and gave one bright
