You've been doing your heat life or series with others. I don't qualify as a heat life or I don't think. I don't think you don't get that designation when you started as a journalist. It's intended to be a journalist. Well, still kind of a journalist. So that doesn't count. You're wearing your dolphins gear too. What do you think, by the way, before we get to today's heat episode 413? I guess that's probably about right. They're not going to be worse than that because they never are worse than that. So yeah, four or five wins. Yeah, it's one of those things where it's like you want them to be worse so that they can be better in the future. They're doing it the right way.

4:08I will say this time around. I've said that before about some other groups and that hasn't worked out. But it does speak and we won't dwell on this because we don't need to. But it does speak to the stability of the other professional organization in town. I mean, there are a couple others, but the heat specifically that the heat have basically been the same operation with the same trending patterns for 30 plus years. And the dolphins are undergone like seven or eight significant front office shakeups plus additional coaching shakeups and really have nothing to show since December 30th, 2000. Will Lamar Smith rush for 209 yards. I mean, it's a quarter century. But I do see. Seven builds and multiply that by three and that's how many maybe quarterbacks they've had in that time. Oh, you know, it's more than that. Yeah, no, you're right. No, it's almost by four. This point. I think I did this season. I'll not mleek will this isn't bad. But yeah, they're, I don't know, man, like the panthers

5:08got themselves together before the dolphins do. It tells you everything. The hurricanes like when from not being back to fully back during this period of time and the dolphins are still down there somewhere in the gutter. Although I do think like I said, I think they've got a plan to actually strip it down and get out. But anyway, we don't want to talk about that much more. You're not here for that. More than I'm not say over. More than on H&B because like, why not? Where else is the ball? All right, so Greg, that's my expert analysis on that. I beg Greg, the heater and happier times. And we were trying to figure this out. We were doing a little sleuthing. I don't know where this was. I'll start with this. We have heard that a few of the guys may end up in the Bahamas. We do have a Bahamian correspondent, our guy Timothy Bain. Training camp's not going to be in the Bahamas. But I've heard that some of the guys might end up in the Bahamas for some kind of a coordinated effort. It kind of looked like what we just saw. But imagine that in the Bahamas. I'm just going to go to various places. We don't know where this one was because this came earlier than the Bahamian trip was supposed to be. And of course, training camp doesn't start till the end of the month.

7:12And yet, everybody was at this thing with the exception of Tim Hardaway, Jr., who's working out in New York. And some money from Tecchio, who's currently overseas in Italy. Other than that, everybody of significance was there. Davian Mitchell, of course, is everywhere. This offseason, as his trade Donaldson. Like you cannot escape you. And Bamb was there and Janis was there, which is the important thing, along with Wiggins, along with Pelolarsin, along with Captain Clay, as Bobby Portis Jr. is calling him. It seems like Bobby Portis Jr. has taken over as presiding over festivities. And he fans are excited about this, because the chemistry is the vibes are back. What do you make of it? They cook dinner together. They literally age sushi together, and they prepare their own meat. And again, they're hiding it. Nobody had any locations on any of this. Although we still be now. Anyone who hears this, if you figure out where they were, please message me so I know.

8:14It's not that it's that big a deal. It's just like we couldn't figure out, like looking in the background and stuff. Like if it was a restaurant, we recognized or anything like that. The scenery looked out of the ordinary. So we'll see where that was. It's cool to see them all together. I think that when I think back through all of the most successful heat seasons, it's usually teams that were relatively connected. Like the O6 titles, this weird group that kind of got connected after the fact. And they figured it out then. But like, it's, I think, there's a degree of, I guess we're not just excited as fans, but there's like a curiosity too about what this is going to look like. And I think they sense that too, that there's like, it could be something special, like Clay said. I just feel it deep down in my gut. This is going to be something special. And I want to throw a egg on his face one day for saying that.

9:14But I get that because it's like everyone, you know, this is one of those teams where it's like, you have expectations, but they could exceed. And you're excited to see it all come together. And they look like that too, which is a unique thing where the fans and the team seem to have vibes aligned. Right. And it's always a question of whether or not the vibes come before the winning, or the winning comes before the vibes. But look, I just want to slow everybody on just a little bit. Because I like this. Obviously, there's nothing not to like about it. It's see guys getting along. But the last two years, they had a boat event, which I think hero hosted, right. That pretty much everybody was there, including him and Bam and everybody looked happy. And the vibes of Jimmy's not here anymore. So the vibes are back, right? Everybody's loose, comfortable. That didn't really go anywhere. Did they go bowling or something too? They got bowling. And last year, I mean, I don't know if anybody wants to bring this up, because it's a sad circumstance. But they all gathered at Spowe's house,

10:14about two weeks, two, three weeks before. That's what I was thinking of. What they, yeah. Yeah, they all went to Spowe's house. And we're out in the backyard after he'd renovated it. And of course, you know, Spowe obviously suffered a tragedy after that. I don't need to make light of that. It's just we're, we certainly didn't Spowe made light of it at the end of the season, talked about things burning down. But obviously, that was not a great circumstance. But they were all together there and they looked happy. And then we found out later that they weren't really happy. Right? As the season progressed, you know, it was clear, Norm wasn't really happy with having to kind of share the spotlight and time with Tyler. Once Tyler came back, we know now that damn and Tyler weren't good for several months before the incident in Las Vegas. So I do want to caution everybody, because the first six game losing streak is when you really get tested on this sort of stuff, right? And that's why it's always like the winning has to come before the chemistry. But there is an opportunity here for this group to click.

11:17And I, there's a few reasons for it. First is it's been very well constructed, maybe not intentionally, although maybe partially so, to put some guys together who do have connections already. So the fact that Janis was acquired with Bobby Portis, who seemed to be the last guy he actually really trusted on that Milwaukee roster. Maybe he had some comments about the guards trying to do too much last year. Bobby's not a guard. You know, I don't know what his relationship was like with Kuzma, but it didn't seem like it was great with Miles Turner based on some of the comments that my notes were. Right? Okay, his two favorite teammates during that run were probably Drew Holiday and Chris Middleton. And they weren't there anymore. So the guy who kind of assumed that, and if you watch their chemistry on the court, when you watch some of Janis's best passes, a lot of them were to Bobby Portis. Like this is a guy he obviously feels very comfortable with, who has emerged over the course of time as sort of a mature leader. Wasn't his reputation early in his career, but, you know, as happens with a lot of guys as they get into their 30s,

12:18that's what it's become. He was like the last champion left from Janis's run. Sorry, he didn't arrest you. I think so. He was. Yes, that's it. So, right, so that's just some of the he actually respects, right? And also is someone who is kind of gregarious and will step out there and protect in a way that Haslam did in some ways. There are some similar, even though I know they had their issues, but they don't seem to anymore. So that's, you know, that's the thing. It's like, well, you hate the guy if he's on the other side. He was on yours. He's kind of like your guy. And that's sort of where they're at. So that's one thing. The other thing is that Clay and Wiggins started together on a championship team. So you're talking about the two new guys that they brought in. The two premium new guys, Janis and Clay, both have other people on this roster, who they are already extraordinarily comfortable with. Clay went out there and said that Wiggins made his job so easy. He said it to him on the court when they won the title in 2022, if you've ever seen that clip. So this is, I think that helps, okay? Davion and Bam already had a good relationship.

13:19Nobody has a problem with Andrew Wiggins, right? Bella is somebody who's earned pretty much everybody's respect with his work, which even stuck out to Clay. Now Tim Hardaway Jr. was not at this, as I mentioned. But again, he was working out all off season with Wiggins, even though they've never played together before, as far as I know. Couldn't figure out a connection. So you already have all this in place. And for a lot of them, it feels like a fresh start. And I think that if you look at, if you look at Sposed Comments, I said the Brady Anapot case. I have a feeling I know what Sposed Common theme is going to be. Or the theme he says all the time, which is, because he said it three times at the presser introducing Clay. We're writing a new story. And I think that's how this is going to be shaped. That this is, okay, you've got some guys who've done some things in other places. Bobby's won a championship. Wiggins is won a championship. Clay is won championships. Yannis is won championships. So you're bringing in four guys of won championships. Tim Hardaway Jr. would grow up here, left,

14:21went to a bunch of places, has come back. But we're writing a new story. There's a new ceiling for Pell and Larson. There's a new story for Nico Yovic, possibly. If you can turn things around, that feels like the sort of thing that Sposed would say. And Davion is trying to sort of create a new story. That he is not just like a bit player or somebody who didn't pan out as a top 10 pick, but a guy who actually can be a championship type point guard. So I feel like that's where this is headed. And so when you see them all on the boat, eating sushi, making their own dinner, laughing, giving each other's nicknames, I get it. Why, like, everybody's like, okay, this is a new fresh thing. That's what I took out of it. I agree. I think that fans like the fact that it's fresh, but the team looks like they're jelling. But you're right not to make too much of it. Because if we think about some of the teams that probably had a lot of good friends, not all those seasons did they enter with that same enthusiasm and curiosity about what was going to happen and the Kumbaya stuff.

15:23Like even the big three teams, like, by year three, they were kind of like, all right, here we go again, you know, like, they had a common goal and they were professionals, but they were starting to get on each other's nerves a little bit here and there. And then in year four, even LeBron and Dwayne in year four, right? LeBron was tired of playing and not playing. And then Jimmy, like, if you remember back to when he arrived, that was another high vibes offseason. When Jimmy arrived, they drafted Tyler and he looked good in summer league. Then like, Jimmy came in and like, slam dunk his presser in media day. And then the slam magazine photo shoot with a three of them. With the three of them and then Bam went to the All-Star game and Jimmy's propping them up saying like, this guy needs to go like, there was like a certain continuity and everyone was for each other and that dissipated as time went on. So I think like there's also like, we have to understand that there's a honeymoon phase with these groups a little bit. But so the first six game losing streak, hopefully they don't have that.

16:23So maybe three game losing streak, that'll be like what will start to test some of this. But you can't, it's better than them being at odds already. Or like wondering who's in what role and who's getting paid what, like that stuff is behind them when we talk about a new story. They're also, I think, trying to put their foot down and say like, okay, this is an absolutely new build from what we were doing with Jimmy Butler. And so fans get excited about that too. But it doesn't mean you're going to win the championship immediately at all. Well, it also takes a little bit of a burden off a sposed plate because now Spo may not have to do as much of the team bonding stuff when they come in. Like a lot of that's been done. They'll know each other. The kind of, the other thing I think is the help is that they're very defined roles on this team. It's not, there's not a lot of guys who do the exactly the same thing. Sort of like we just had with Tyler and Norm and teams in the past. So I feel like that's going to make it easier too, because there's guys who will understand how to stay in their lane unless Spo asks them to do more. Like, okay, Tim, Jr. We need you to do a little more ball handling than you've done in the past.

17:24Okay, so he will try to expand their horizons, but it's not a bunch of guys who think they're the man. Everybody knows who the effin man is, okay? And it's okay. Can we eat off of his leftovers? Because we're going to get better leftovers than we've ever gotten. Like that's the plan here. And I think that creates a very easy situation for Spo where you can come in and say, okay, this is the basketball plan. I don't have to baby you guys. This is what we're going to do. We know who the guy is. He doesn't have to talk them into eating the leftovers. They'll take the they like the leftovers. It's better on the second day. What's the food is always better on the second day. So if it's that there's no question about pizza. I'm not as make a fan of his son, but yes, the Chinese food. Yes, Chinese Thai, Japanese, give me that we're not the sushi, but everything else. Give me that the second day. And I think that they're all going to join. And by the way, five of the floor, look, it ate the same as it was. We arrived our vibes. I mean, Brady is, you know, Brady's doing Kevin O'Connor show. Okay. Like, right? I mean, we might have some dissent shit about that. Like the fact that he's going to also weaken that.

18:24Right. So I mean, it's our six or whatever, 12 year together. It's Brady even 12 yet. Our vibes may not be exactly where they were, but it happens. So you need a refresh. And that's one of the reasons that we're going to have a couple of people on our podcast a little bit more often. This year at Delbert is going to be one of them. To mix into the group a little bit and keep things fresh. But this is for me a good thing, but not like guarantee. I think that's the way that we look at it. That anything is going to, that okay, that means they're going to be 21 and 3 when they start the season. No, but you're right. It's better than not, right? It's better. Yeah. It definitely is. And I think the other part of it too is, Yannis is such a, like, I think it's starting to sink in. Like, what degree of superstar he is in the hierarchy throughout the league. And so like he's walking around. He's got the heat shirt on in the gym as he's dunking and stuff like that. So it's also like a moment where I think vibes are high because everyone, including probably like bam, Davion guys that were part of the last couple teams,

19:27they're like, oh, wow. Like, okay, we got a shot. And fans feel that way. I'm sure the coaches, although Spowe always says they got a shot. Now they really feel that way. And so that just inherently is making everybody feel more confident going into a year. So I mean, I'm excited, but I am not 98 humbled me. Like, I thought that the heat we're going to start with the big tree and just be real enough victories to some degree. And it didn't happen. And that taught me a valuable lesson. Well, and there was the O and five in that season where they, you know, that five game homestand where they dropped all those games. And then it's like, look at the vibes we're not there. I do think it's funny though to watch Bucks fans. So peeled that Yadis is doing things here that he didn't do in that organization, including skipping the thing with Greece. And all that to be with his teammates to get there early to organize these events. There is a certain level of saltiness. Look, you want to title with them. Okay, like if you hadn't won a title, I would understand it. But look, the guy need a first or two.

20:28Anybody goes to a new job. They want to make a good impression. Like, even if they're the guy who just bought a $15 million house down in Pinecrest or whatever, like they still want to make a good impression. I will get to this more little more on the other side. Speaking of family, or people tied to the heat, I was at Proleague, and one of the players I watched at Proleague, two nights or three nights I was there, was David Carter. It was a son of Anthony Carter. AC was there. I go way back with AC because I kind of covered him as a rookie. Of course, AC is best known in heat circles for being the guy whose contract was voided so that the heat could go get shacked with Bill Duffy making a mistake. Hey, don't underrate that shot in New York. We threw it over the backboard. I probably shouldn't have been legal although I defended it at the time as it was. AC was like the star of Manhattan that whole next couple of days. AC is a really good guy if you ever got a chance to. Counter-homing was also an assistant on the heat staff

24:33for a little while. Then he went to Memphis, then that staff kind of got blown out. When I talked to AC, I was doing what he was doing. He says he's just down here coaching his son. And I didn't get a chance to see him at the next game, which that Proleague team lost because Carter wasn't there. Anyway, Devin Carter was drafted in the top 10, top five, I think, actually. Bysach Romano, it didn't work out. Shooting was mostly the issue. He was then traded after, I think, two seasons to Atlanta this off season. And they've let him go. Now, the heat have a 15 spot available. Names have been mentioned, like they don't have to fill it right now. But Names have mentioned like Gabe Vincent, others who have ties to the organization. Because Devin never played for the organization. But I know they scouted him pretty heavily before they then draft. Right. I don't know what kind of prospect he is, honestly, but I also know that Sacramento couldn't figure out how to get the most out of Davey on Mitchell. And now the heat will have, right?

25:34And also, I thought it was funny, like how they completely fumbled Hassan Whiteside. And I mean, everyone would fumble Hassan Whiteside in some way, but the heat at least got something out of that situation. So they have, that's true, that max contract. Shout out to him for that. Yeah, good work. But to that point, I mean, like they have taken the Sacramento guys and figured out ways to make them work in other scenarios. But I personally think that they, there's a perception in that building that they got a lot of young guards that they're trying to figure out stuff about. And I know that probably fans are rolling their eyes a little bit because some of these guys are second-round or undrafted players. But they like those, those guys. On our channels too, especially. Yes, and Conwell. And they're giving those guys reps. And you mentioned it was three weeks back. We've done a lot of shows since then somewhere around there that you thought it would come down to training camp battles for that last spot.

26:37And I think they probably have a degree of like, that's healthy or anyway, to just have everyone kind of not know exactly where it's going to go. I don't think they're going to move quickly on Devon Carter. If AC was on the staff right now, maybe there would be something a little different there. But I personally don't think that they're going to move quickly there. But maybe I'll be wrong. Of course, Devon went to school in D'Rale. I mean, so AC was here. I don't think they're going to move quickly on it either, but I wouldn't be surprised if interest is expressed. I would lean more towards Devon Carter than Gabe Vincent if they go that direction, even though they're really comfortable. It's funny because Gabe actually did a podcast recently where he talked about how Devon Mitchell was going to eat off of Yannis and Bam, which I'm sure Gabe in his mind believes that he would too. And he might actually because I don't know how to judge some of these guys after they get out of the heat away from the heat. You know, some guys they come back.

27:38It doesn't work like Josh Richardson, but I think Josh was kind of towards the end at that point. Anyway, then he had an injury while he was with the heat. But I mean, Gabe would be a safer option. I feel like Carter would be a little higher upside. If Gabey on were to get hurt, they would have to look at a Gabe type of like stabilizer. Whereas if it if Davey on is available and like some of the other guys, Tim Hardaway Jr., if he can grow into his role and obviously Yannis and Bam do their thing, then they could lean younger and to that point, they'll take I think they would take a look at Devon Carter. I just what I guess where I'm coming from is that some of those guys that have been in the building all summer working. Just because Devon Carter was drafted where he was, does not mean he leapfrogs all those guys in their minds. That's just my perception. No, I'm with you on that. And look, Donaldson is obvious he's somebody they made. But they have these ties to all these guys, right? Donaldson was a UM guy. They saw him very up close. Tim Hardaway Jr., now we've had a whole career to see him, but obviously they know him. They know his character and all that.

28:40And you know, in this case, the Carter, they saw him grow up too. So it's like, they're always going to lean towards what they know, particularly again, this is not just the son of a former player, but the son of someone who they trusted to be on the coaching staff too. AC was basically doing developmental stuff with young guards. That's what he was doing. And now he's doing it with his own son who was believed to have lottery ability. Now, I will say just watching him in pro league, I guess, and it's tough in pro league, because I said Drew Smith was in pro league. And on paper, Devin Carter looks like a better player than Drew Smith, like just in terms of the things that he can do. But Drew has a very specific skill set that I think Spowe taps into. And another quality individual who they like personally, and they know he's going to do the work. And he's obviously come back from two traumatic injuries, which kind of proved his resilience. But when you watch Devin Carter, like he looks more impressive on that court,

29:40but so does busy bones for bone tylin for a different reason. But the one thing I didn't see, he had the ball in his hands a lot in pro league. And kind of the question with him is Sacramento was the shooting and also running a team. He's kind of like a combo guard.
