THE "Mediterranean" Diet Is Flawed, Here's Why | Dr. Shawn Baker & Dr. Thanos Efthimiou

About this episode

Thanos is a Greek medical doctor, who specialized in internal medicine and was trained in Germany, with additional expertise in subspecialties like infectious diseases and medical nutrition. After meeting Dr. Shawn Baker at a keto gathering and being encouraged to participate in a podcast, he shared his personal health journey of adopting a nearly 98% carnivore diet over the last four years, through which he combated his chronic diseases, including obesity, fatty liver, arterial hypertension, hyperuricemia, eczema, and alopecia areata. Even his periocular vitiligo, present since childhood, nearly vanished.

Witnessing his own remarkable health transformation and recognizing the supportive scientific literature, he began applying similar lifestyle modifications to his patients, repeatedly observing the reversal of chronic conditions, such as sleep apnea and arterial hypertension. Even patients suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) demonstrated clear improvements under his guidance. Almost all patients who were willing to alter their eating habits experienced health improvements.

Currently, he is launching his private practice in Athens, Greece, incorporating a Lifestyle Medicine Network that not only includes physicians from various specialties but also nutritionists, physiotherapists, and coaches. The aim is to provide comprehensive care to patients in Athens and, gradually, in other locations as well.
