I mean every day Ernie and I would sit in this beautiful home overlooking the trees, the nearby lake and every bit of wildlife that peacefully stroll through this amazing piece of history. Ernie and I have shared the same vision for three decades. It's this forest. We both looked into these trees and studied the Earth below. I mean, there is something very spiritual going on here. A major day in Carolina history, praying for the people once living in the force of North Carolina. The western side of the area was brutalized by Helene. The forest couldn't protect the people from the wind and the rain. So much history had been lost. This side of the mountain became raging waterfalls and anything in its way was swiftly removed. Towns and highways and homesteads all have been left as nothing more than just a memory. Now, being a daily writer and one who has camped in these collections of trees, my handwritten thoughts and experiences of these places are for anyone who wants to visit what is now gone. I know how water moves through my own forest right here in South Charlotte, North Carolina. And how that water over the years has harshly reshaped the soil.

So many forest forced to recover in ways that no human can truly afford. Another day, another page, always a new beginning. This is very tough to go back to October 6, 2024. This, this was our land, North Carolina. This was happening to us, North Carolina. And what so many people did not get to experience because once it falls off the front page of any newspaper or the front page of a website for CNN, NBC or even Fox news, once it falls off that front page, it's no longer news. But the way that North Carolina came back together, this state in a nation of 50 states pulled itself into a place of replenishing,

3:12believing wholeheartedly in the mountains, the foothills, the Piedmont, the lands of this nation that were affected because the people had to go somewhere and bring something back to rebuild and to reevaluate their presence in this place of all things right now. Sure, a lot of history had been totally taken out of the picture. But now this area has grown back. Why? Because the people came together. The nation came together hurricane, halane beat the hell out of this state in ways that we have never seen. And now every day after we hold on to each other's hands and we say, we got this. We got this while the rest of us around the state fear every single storm that is building outside our shores. Because with El Nino here now, we don't know where the walls of water will begin and end and what it's going to take with it.
